    Default 97 TJ

Some of you are aware that I've sold the 4runner and bought a TJ. Found it with 102k miles on the clock and in pretty good shape, no rust, and has the 0630 head.

    Some details:
    - it came with a light bar, Smitty(shitty)bilt front and rear bumpers, 2in budget boost, Rancho 5000x shocks, 33x12.5's, side-steps, half doors, and we can't forget the mismatched 31in spare.

Here's the day I brought it home:

    Here's how it sits now:

Interested in a bumper, instatrunk, or some fabric doors? I have a bunch of TJ parts to get rid of soon.

Maybe? I'm planning on getting a new top and new doors soon, the soft top is pretty trashed. I also have a growing pile of Jeep stuff in the garage that I'm trying to sell...

    What's an instatrunk?

If anyone wants I've got two lightly worn 33x12.5r15 BFG k02 and one new one I'm trying to offload. Putting some 31's on to start with...

I'll pass, I've pulled out the whole rear bench and hardware for something like the SecurityDeck or a drawer like I was planning for the 4runner. Thanks though!

Nice Jeep! That's low miles for a 97, good score. How much do you want for the 33s?

Not sure about the tires, but I see you need a top; I have this half top with rear window hanging in my garage, I'll trade for any small token of gratitude. That offer is open to anyone if you're not interested. It fits 97-02 so it's awkward on my Jeep, i got it for next to nothing a few years ago. this pic is the only use it's had:

Thanks Paul, a 12-pack of your favorite suds perhaps?

I've got another ad for misc things I've pulled off the TJ, I'll keep it updated with more stuff as time progresses.
    https://boulder.craigslist.org/pts/d...338335255.html

I rejuvenated the seat cushion with some moving blankets from Harbor Freight, temporary fix:

Focusing on more important things I've got my sights on these spacers. I'd like to ditch them for some proper coils, better flex, and actual 2in of lift. Looking at BDS 2in lift kit and pairing it with a set of 31s.

2.5" lift got me to 33 x 10.5 tires with only very minor rubbing. With the LJ I didn't need the SYE, but TJ will likely have issues with rear driveshaft angles with that lift unless you do something about rear pinion or go with SYE kit, I think.

Yeah, I'm noticing some drivetrain vibrations when accelerating that feels like it's coming from the back. Luckily I scored that SYE NP231 kit this weekend.

What lift kit? are they actually 33x10.5 or are they metric? I'm looking at 31x10.5r15 Duratracs. Correct me if I'm wrong here but my thinking is that I'll keep it pretty mild with mods for now and upgrade to a longarm kit in the future.

The lift was installed before I bought the Jeep. It appears to be OME 2.5, but the springs have Rancho stickers on them. It might be cobbled together a bit. I run BFG KO2s in 33x10.5xr15 (not metric). I rub just a bit under some extreme full lock / tire stuffed into fender, but I could probably resolve that with some high line / flat fenders. 33x10.5 is enough that I can run just about anything I want to given that I don't have any lockers. The Jeep had 30x9.5xr15 with a 1" transfer case drop when I bought it -- I really hated this configuration. I removed the drop kit (1" more clearance on transfer case skid) and put 33s on and have been very happy with the Jeep since.

Trent has a pretty sweet set-up on his LJ - functional on both street and trail....On the shorter wheelbase TJ, 33s will have more functional clearance with break-over angle and such (the longer wheelbase can have some traction advantage though in certain terrain conditions). I run 33x10.5 on my even shorter wheelbase cj5 and it feels like it can keep up with longer 4dr jeeps and such that are on 35s.At the same time, its pretty amazing what a small, short wheelbase jeep can get through without large lift or tires. Although most of the newer jeeps on the rubicon are running 37s, there are still a few early cjs doing fine on 31s. FWIW - you can get BFGs mud-terrain tire in a 33x10.5r15 as well if you are looking for more aggressive tread pattern. But, be aware that many of the traditional (non p-metric) tires sizes are rated at LT, and thus have a bit stiffer sidewall and may make the ride a bit more harsh, and/or lower air pressure might be warranted.
