We just got a bunch of snow! What are you thinking? The fish aren't biting, it hasn't been cold enough to skate....
Wait...you're not going to jump in, are you? Don't do it, Zach. You're a young man....

Name a few ponds in your area so I don't get confused.

Heck this is perfeeect weather now for fishing My oldest son just took a really nice 6lb rainbow Saturday right below Eleven Mile. Forgot to download the picture from email before deleting it.

Zack how far you want to go? There are a few lakes close by, nothing like you are used from back home as for what they call lakes (mini oceans).

Cherry Creek Lake and Standley Lake are the biggest ponds around
Standley Lake is closest to me, but I want a bigger pondlake thing.

Until compared to my lakes back home haha then your living in pond ville!!! J/K but i lived off a Lake Vermilion for 2 Years.
    It is Basically
40,000 acres of water, 365 islands and 1200 miles of shoreline, it stretches 40 miles across

And to find some thing that might be called a lake you are going to have to head into the mountains to get anything. Dillion is kinda a lake, granted its a res. along with green mountain res.

You do realize this is Colorado right?

We don't have very many lakes here. Not what I would call lakes anyway.

There are some, but very few. And several are reservoirs not lakes. There are quite a few smaller lakes, but we don't have many that you can just drive up to and put a boat in if that's the kind of lake you're looking for.

It depends on what you want to do. There are some nice sized freshwater bodies of water in the state.

For some of us around here, a "lake" is what you call Michigan.

But this is Colorado, those things don't exist out here. You are looking in the wrong part of the country to find a lake. Water photography out here, means a small mountain pond(lake), or fast moving mountain streams.

True, mountain lakes, make for good reflective shots, and mountain streams make for decent nature blur photography

I guess I've just got to wait until I can go somewhere to take the shots I want
But I'd still like to get some mountain pondlakes and stream shots
    They'd be different
    ;p

Oh I missed the photography part. Dude I didn't know you were in to photography.

You should come hike to Dream Lake with me sometime. Or I'm going to go to Lake Isabelle and probably Mills Lake too this year.

Nymph Lake is cool (on the way to Dream) as in season it has lilly pads which bloom.

Also Sprague is a good easy to get to lake which has Hallet Peak in the background:

The great lakes are anomalous, some of the largest in the world.

I don't agree that that it's reasonable to think smaller bodies of water can't be considered lakes.

That said, Palmer lake, Lake George and many others are simply puddles.

My definition of lake is a (reasonably) large inland body of water where recreation is permitted.

I consider Pueblo, Chatfield 11-mile and Blue Mesa Reservoirs man-made lakes.

    Yeah, I love photography
    But I only have a 35mm SLR(B&W Film for school) and a Cannon S5-IS
So I don't have very good equipment yet

But I'd love to go hiking up there with you sometime!
I can hike now so anytime you want to just let me know.
    : )

    Did you take that picture?
    Thats REALLY pretty
I'm out of school for springbreak all next week if you want to go on a little hike then?
    Ahah

It's just all of the "lakes" I've seen around here are a joke.

The one in that picture isn't too bad, which one is that?
And where are some of the bigger ones?

Blue Mesa, out West. 11-mile is nice. Pueblo and Chatfield are close, decent and popular.

Is Standley Lake (near Wheat Ridge) any good?

    I'm not sure,
    I've not seen it IRL
    Just on googlemaps so far.
I plan on checking it out fairly soon however.
