So the other night I go to let my dog out at about 12am. throw some water in his dish and get ready for bed. Go out to the door a few min later and call him... no show. figure he's sniffing something particularily interesting. So i go back out a few minutes later call him again still no show, turn to go back inside and then he comes around the corner... limping. "Aw crap now what did you do dog?" Take him in the house and take a look and he has two serious gashes, one on his chest and the other on his upper right front leg. both about 10" long. "SH!T!" luckily he's not bleeding much. I go pull crap out of the car and load him up to take him down to the emergency vet clinic.
They look at him and luckily he didn't do any muscular damage just skin. however they want $700 to stitch him up! Tried to see if there was a way they could knock the price down. they wouldn't but they said the stitches could wait for morning. So i grabbed some meds for him, anti-bios, and some pain meds. got back home at about 3am. and since I work nights now my body is in "work" mode and i'm up for the night. I check on him often make sure he's doing ok and then head for my local vet at 7:30.
I walk in and tell the receiptionist that my dog needs stitches and she gave me attitude about not calling. I really wanted to tell her "Sorry for the inconvience, hauling my dog in here all tore up really wasn't on my list of things to do today either lady." either way they got him in fairly quickly. So I headed back home they said he'd be ready by 5pm. final bill? $421 for the surgury. ugh stupid dog.
Once home I Looked around the yard for a bit and found a chunk of fir on a fence post. we had to steak down a tree on our property trying to keep it upright. Took some PVC and covered the posts. The worst part is this isn't even the first time he has done something like this.
Couple years ago while pouring concrete in the barn everything had just been done and the framing steaks were still in, he hit one of those and tore open his back leg pretty badly. he's also managed to removed various other chunks and bits here and there from being a complete CLUTZ! I feel like i need to get a book on child... err dog proofing.
Either way he's back home now. stitched, stapled, drugged. and wearing the cone of shame! a rather pathetic sight. Hopefully he's done finding ways to hurt himself.
