Thread: Next to check out!

  1. #1

    Default Next to check out!

Alrighty, have sold a few things and gotten myself up to $1800. Called this guy and left a message. Will be checking the usual, paying particular attention to the condition of the transmission, whatever recent work he's done on the truck and the undercarriage as I'm sure he took it off road.

If things seem to be in good shape but he hasn't done much to the engine and tranny I'll see if I can't get him down to $1500. Lower than that seems silly considering what he's done with it (and it's almost 100% setup the way I want it).

    Any thoughts or warnings?

It's got about everything I want done to it already. Axles, rear locker, small lift, 35" tires, bumper that can accept a winch. Not sure what the HD suspension is. My only concern is the 180k miles and no mention of rebuild.

And as my brother is finding out now, just because the axles are 8-lug doesn't mean they are Dana 60's. The 44's apparently came in an 8-lug. Just buyer beware... I can't testify what vehicles came with them, but you would be disappointed to have an 8 lug 44.

Is there any way to look at the axles and know? Or do I just have to trust the seller?

Yeah that is a concern I wonder about also. But Small block chevy is a quick/easy(cheap compaired to many) rebuild. I am curious when he calls back what he will say about the motor. with 180K on the clock that seems $$ to me. Looks like he likes his music also. Here's to hoping its a good one for you!

Without all the mods he's done to it already I would say his asking price is completely insane. As it stands, I think it's just a little high, but that's normal.

I'm dying to learn how. I've never even changed a timing belt.

Ah ok cool, I'll bring a rag to wipe it down and check. Thanks!

I'll probably post up when I'm gonna go check it out when I hear back from him. He's up in Erie, will probably try to do something on a weekend. Hopefully someone more experienced than me can come. Good idea!

If you get it and do the rebuild, I would love to help. I have never really torn into an engine and would like to learn all I can.

There are small differnces visually, this will give you a good start. I don't think the Burbs of 88 in the 3/4 ton flavor had a 44 factory.. EVER... but that is what I noticed.

If greenmachine and/or whoever is teaching me how I think it'd make for a good tech day for people to learn how to do it.
