A long day here locally is Eagle Rock/Baldy/Bull Park There are also some fun spots off Rampart Range. Moab Hill on Illinois gulch is a great place for a stocker to bust a window. I heard Hackett was re-opened but haven't confirmed it. China Wall is good all winter long.

To add to this a bit: There are also a number of FS roads off of Tarryall Road besides ChinaWall. Off of Rampart, FS 322 (Ice Cave Creek Road or Balanced Rock Road depending on whose information you use) goes down to Palmer Reservoir, FS 323/324 makes for a good loop trail with some nice overlooks.
Both Hackett and Longwater Gulches are opened down to the river where they dead end, just like Metberry does. None of these trails cross the river anymore as this is where the county line is. Here is the link to the August 9,2009 IH8MUD trip report:
