    Default Roos FJ Cruiser Mods

I worked out a swap with Reese for some mods to his FJ and he brought it by yesterday.

I added some much needed bracing to the rear (stock factory) control arms and a 1/4" skid plate to the front mounts for the rear arms. The factory control arms are prone to bending under the stresses of wheeling and the front mounts for these are made of some thin metal that gets hammered due to the location.

I sleeved the bottom part of the control arms with 1/2 of a piece of square stock from the front end to the back, stiffening up the arms and adding additional metal to the parts that gets the most abuse. If you don't have or don't want to spend the money for a set of expensive and beefy aftermarket control arms, this is a good economical fix.

BTW, if anyone out there has a crack or rock ding in their windshield, by all means call Reese! He got bored and fixed the crack and a big rock ding in our Ford Escort while he was waiting for me to finish. Thanks, Reese, it looks great!

And, like me, can use all the work he can get!!

Once again, thanks Brody! You do some great work! I can't wait to test it out on a trail sometime soon. I enjoyed getting to hang out with you and LaDawn and getting to know you guys better. Also thanks for business plug!

Hey, Reese, how about trying to bend those mods on Barbour Fork on Sept. 5 (the second cleanup run)?

Don't be twisting my arm. I am down for a maybe at the moment, but it is more towards the yes part of maybe than no.

Hope you can make. I hear you have some new tires. Considering that you wheel better on bald P tires than I do on BFG's, it'll be fun to watch you wheel on something with lugs.

Yep, I got Jock's old BFG's! So they are not new but new to me and way better than those stock Dunlops.

BTW, I don't think I am a better wheeler than anybody. You are talking to a southern boy that has only wheeled in the mtn's two times now. I come from the land of mud, mud, and more mud.

Nice work Brody. My control arm mount skids are great. Now you are bracing the whole arm? I bet that would be handy.

Pathrat are you control arms bent at all? There are several companies that make heavier versions as it has shown to be a week point on the FJ. I told Brody about Toytec's version and he had some similar metal stock in the garage so he made some. I think Toytec's are probably thicker but these will work for me.

The next time you stop by Pathrat, I'll take a good look at your control arms and put the side plate (remember I offered to do this before?) on for you.

Yep, I remember. I don't think they are bent, but they could get bent by me at some time and in fact it is likely.
I have been ignoring the truck except for maintenance. I didn't even want to start entertaining doing stuff to it again. You know where that leads.
