Default Has anyone bought an engine from these guys?

I'm looking at buying a used short block from a guy. I offered him $200 and he accepted, now i'm just trying to do some research and make sure the guys who rebuilt it are reputable. When i first bought my truck the guy said he had just "rebuilt" it and did a piss poor job (less than 30k later oil burning and blow-by ). so i'm trying to avoid the same mistake twice.

Engine 22-RE said to have 30k on it.

    Engine tag shows:

    " the bore 040, mains 020, rods 020

    compression #1 200 #2 200 #3 195 #4 200

oil pressure 41, oil flow 63, Amps 7

engine rebuilt from fliteline engine supply in AR

engine was installed in truck by american engine installation in the springs."

with 30k on the clock the motor should still have plenty of life in it as long as it was redone well. I went and listened to it no major problems evident, though admittedly i'm not the best at listening for problems. any suggestions or thoughts?

Does the tag say where in AR it was built? I can't speak for the Little Rock location, but I actually have a couple of buddies from High School that work(ed?) at the Ft. Smith, AR location (I grew up in TX, then moved just south of Ft. Smith when I was about 13). I don't really talk to the guys anymore, but I've seen the work they do. I would probably be OK with an engine from them. Then again, I haven't been back there in a few years, so they could have gone to crap.

Hey Jon, have you gotten my recent PM's?

~ Does the engine shop have any referrals they can provide you?

I probably couldn't really tell you for sure. I bought a rebuilt engine from there for my dad's El Camino. He hasn't had any problems with it.

    $200... ?

For $200 I would not sweat it... if it sounds good, starts fine, don't smoke, and the compression is good like it is... I'd do it.

I mean even if it last a year, maybe 2 thats really a small price to pay I think.

and i do inherently agree with you. my reservation is simply that i have torn down this motor so many times in the past year that i'm honestly just getting sick and tired of doing it. so i want to get it done and get it done RIGHT! and like i said in my OP i'm really just trying to make sure these guys know what they are doing. too many people claim to "know" what they are doing and really just make things so much worse.
