The whole escapade came about because I pushed my scheduling to make this trip. I went up late in the day with equipment that was untested, and virtually unknown. I did the exact opposite of what I would advise someone else.

Just to add to the general feel of the trip, there was a 50 yard red streak on the pavement. It started on one side of the road, veered across both lanes, in and out of the opposite ditch, and ended on the side it started. I'm guessing something big hit an Elk. Something to keep in mind when you need to allow extra braking distance, in the night, in the dark, where there is no cell signal....Bwahahahahaha!

Let me know if you want some help when you are ready to widen it up.

I got the second Comanche down tonight. There is another story coming as soon as I put stuff away.

I got the second Comanche down from Golden Gate Canyon tonight. Other than trying to stop on dirt once, it was a slow and un-eventful drive.

After getting some chow in my belly, I went out to unload. I quickly learn this home made dolly doesn't like U-turns.

Now it was nice that it broke down at home. After the fact, all I could think about was the Mrs giving me dirty looks for dragging it home. It breaks in front of a retired firefighters home...and still reeks from the beer can collection the PO stored in it. :o

I worked silently, in the night, in the dark, hoping no-one would hear, no-one would come...

A different neighbor helped me unload the dolly. After parking the truck, I slung the broken dolly from my tow hitch and towed it to it's parking spot.

Every time I put a vehicle on this thing, I remember that a '66 Dodge pickup rode on it.

I had a notion to widen it enough for other rigs. Now I question every notion that bubbles to the surface of my conscious mind.

    It lives again!

I hope I have enough extra parts. I don't think I can afford another big adventure.

I would bet that the bearings have a number on them, a good parts store with a good parts guy will be able to cross reference the number.

Yes, I think it was purpose built to a car that actually ran. Since I had to pick up some cars that don't run, I reworked a thing or two.

Now that I finally have all these parts-n-parts vehicles moved, I can give the poor thing a rest.

    The adventure continues!

My bud brought 'ol green up from Aurora to take my newest Jeep to the car wash for a de-greasing session. When we got there we noticed the wheels had shifted. We also noticed I had forgot to unlock the steering wheel, which finished off the steering column.

    Before:

    After:

We redid the wheel straps and went really slow on the trip home. As we pulled onto my street, one of the straps came off, letting the Jeep roll forward off the dolly. Instead of blocking the entrance to my (dead end) street, we drug the jeep 70 feet to the house. As my bud pulled up to the curb, there was a loud POP! One of the welds on the original frame had cracked.

As we started lifting the Jeep off the dolly, the cracked weld was revealed as a broken weld.

At this point I was remembering following him on the highway and thinking that 'ol green was looking pretty scary. I had even thought about cutting it up and tossing it in the scrap trailer.

Well, its on, like Donkey Kong!

As we drug major sections from under the Jeep, I was wishing I had not added so much weight. I cut it into manageable sizes.

My bud did ask me to save the spindles, he has an idea...
