    Default Recovery Run Reminder

Hey people, it is now supposed to be Spring, even though it looks like November in Ohio outside. I wanted to do a reminder that we have a recovery mission coming up off of Medano Pass to rescue a stolen rig belonging to one of our crew here.

This rig was stolen last year and the FS found it just before the snow came down and closed the Pass. The plan is to get a group together for the rescue and recovery, spend the weekend down there running some trails and haul the rig back to where it is supposed to go. The whole run is contingent upon the pass being opened up, of course, so we should start watching for this.

I wanted to get this reminder out again so that we don't forget about it and can plan around it. This is an important run and we need to get this done.

Any guess on when the snow will clear enough to do this?

Find someone who knows someone who lives in that area and ask them the snow conditions. You never know, the snow could be passable now.

It might be worthwhile to contact the FS in that area directly and explain what we are going to be doing. It wouldn't be out of the question to get a 'special permit' to get in before they officially open the trail to do the recovery run. At the very least, have the FS keep you up to date as to trail opening times and dates so that we can get in there ASAP.

The reason I mentioned the special permit is that the day the Hayman Fire broke down the Goose Creek drainage (write up and pictures on a thread on this site)we were doing a rock climb (climbers lost BS write up in the Rocky Mountain News and Post) on Sheeprock. We ended up stashing some gear up there, along with some camping supplies. We approached the FS about the possibility of going into the area, although it was closed, in order to recover our lost/stashed gear for insurance purposes. Considering that this is a government agency, we expected a big 'No', but ended up getting the permit and our gear with out a bunch of crap.

Might be worth doing a little investigating. And the sooner the better. You have quite a few people on the site willing to help, including me, but the more heads up time we can get, the better.

bskey had mentioned that the truck is actually on private property. I would make some calls find out who owns it and see if we can't get access and maybe make things easier.
