Default Cut down a Christmas tree?

At least two of us are planning on venturing out to harvest a Christmas tree this Saturday. Is anyone else interested? Does anyone have recommendations? I’ve got the USDA maps but there are many areas where it’s legal. Looking for something a little off the beaten path, maybe something the Honda civics can’t get to.

I haven’t done this recently but one used to have to get a fs permit for each tree in the legal harvesting areas. Just saying. Be legal. Last time I did it they checking permits on the way out.

We used to go to the designated area SW of Red Feathers until the Cameron Peak fire, now we go to Wyoming up by Snowy Range. If you want to stay in CO I'd go up to Cherokee Park area. Another area would be Laramie River Road or Long Draw Road if they are still open when you go.

I actually went last weekend into the Pole Hill area to look for one with my wife. That's part of the Roosevelt National Forest so we were able to get a permit as Tom mentioned ($20 on their website). It was pretty snowy so we didn't go too far into the trail and the trees are all kind of bare so not up to her standards for a Christmas tree . We ended up buying one, but the drive and scenery was nice up there.

    That's actually pretty funny.

Oh man, we picked a bad day to go! They shutdown the Berthoud Pass and we had to take the 3 hour detour to get back to I-70. Left the house at 7am, got home at 8pm. hahah It was definitely the experience though! We pulled out two vehicles on Berthoud Pass.
