Default Fall Color Run Sat Sept 23

    A day well enjoyed.

For me with no top or doors and with the windshield folded down while on the trail - I kept my coat, hat, gloves on most of the day. Temps were nice down low and cool / rather cool up high. Wind was WICKED at Argentine Pass (and McClellan too). Jay and family, with guest and Mike rolled through the day with ease.

Jay's daughter and her friend took turns in the jeep's passenger seat - the novelty of no top, door, or windshield took hold. While conversation with each was enjoyed - one comment made me laugh. A two stroke motorbike zipped by us and from her mouth - (paraphrasing) - I love the smell of two stroke! It caught me off guard - with a chuckle. (and yes, that smoke is the type that does smell good - nothing like a smell to bring forth memories).

`but all for now - I just came in. On the way up I-25, near the large netted golf driving range I stopped to help (teach) a gal how to change a flat tire in her Jeep ?patriot?. I asked if she ever changed a tire - no. I offered - I can do this for you or I can teach you and you can do it. She was game and did a fine job. Now that she knows hopefully she'll have many years before another flat. Several miles north of that - the north side of "Mount Mead" a pickup pulling a runabout boat was on the shoulder. Right rear wheel bearings on the trailer were TOAST. The guy (a friend was there too) was a mobile mechanic and had many of the tools needed - but they were deciding - get a tow truck or try to deal with it on the roadside. In the end, the plan became (they wished to get to Golden), buy a set or few of bearings and change'm roadside then limp home, installing another set if needed - then likely replace the axle back at the shop. I hope the project works out for'm.

EDIT: We went to the Santiago Mill. Just before the mill there was a puddle on the trail - a solid layer of ice. Good snow up there too. Winter's coming.

Time of the flat tire "victory" picture to changed / done - 17 minutes.

All tools and supplies were right at hand - even the necessary bottle of spray lube to make the HiLift pins work as they should.

Great report Jim! It was a fantastic time enjoyed in mountains with family and group. I will have my full report later or tomorrow as I am back at it with family adventures today.

Jims Very detailed report with data a pictures summed the day up however I will add a few notes.

My group had a fantastic day out on the trail as I always love this run.

Onto the flat we all had a part in the tire changing Jim was the jack man, Mike loosened the lugs, the kids Evelyn and Everett held the lugs while I swapped tires, loaded back up and off we went. I have to say if I had to change a tire at 13k plus feet in 50mph winds I couldn’t have asked for a better pit crew!

On the way down the kids asked what happens if we get another flat? Without hesitation both my wife (Sarah) and I had some choice words for those two to shut their lips, don’t say another word and not to even think about it!! They complied LOL.

Jim a have clearly taught my daughter well to love motorcycles and the smell of 2stroke!
