I ran Shrine Pass Friday night / Saturday morning (camped on the trail). Open and clear / no issues.

The gate for the trail in question (closed to motor vehicles - but there were tire tracks looking like they headed in).

That’s the junction where 708 meets at Shrine Pass? If so, I knew it was closed, thus the Redcliff to Camp Hale portion.

Yes. Closed is anticipated / noted. I simply found it odd that the gate was open.

Its still early yet but the early forecast for the Dillon-Vail area is for 60% chance of rain. I really want to see the view of Mt Holy Cross. We will see.

Throwing this out there for discussion purposes.

Toward the end of the week if the forecast is still for 60% chance of rain do people still want to do this run. If its really nasty I definitely don’t want to do the other trails. Shrine pass should be doable but I don’t like to be above tree limit in rain or thunderstorms. I could easily bail if others don’t want to run it in the rain.

My fiance and I are planning on going to Breckenridge either way so we'll be in the area if it ends up being a last minute call. The weather is so sporadic its tough to know what it will be like out there.

If heavy rain is expected, I wouldn't want to make the drive. I don't mind a little rain, but we've had some gushers this year. (And the hail)

I'm not seeing any rain in the forecast for Vail or Dillon, but that's just going off my iphone weather app..

Weather Channel and weather bug both now show 40 or 50% chance of rain. Down from 60% for each. Both also say sunny or partly cloudy in the AM with the 40-50% in the PM.

If it stays like that we will have no issues with Shrine pass and can make a call on the higher elevation trails when we get to them.

My personal main goal is Shrine even though its mostly 2wd.

We are also fine with getting an earlier start than 10am. We could do as early as 8:30am.

Thats no good for me. Planning on leaving Longmont at 7:15 am already and will just make it with a short stop for fuel at Dillon.

I was already to say lets have a great day tomorrow and then double checked the weather which has change since thurs. Here are the latest forecasts. What does everyone think? Lots of thunderstorms starting at noon.

I will go with the consensus but a 5 hr round trip drive for 2 hrs of wheeling concerns me.

We'll be out in the area either way. We will adjust plans accordingly if the consensus is to postpone this one. Might just do Peak 10 since its fully open at this point.

WeatherBug doesn't show the area anywhere near as bad. So I am a go unless something drastically changes.

See you all in the morning. I will be leaving Longmont at 7:15, with a quick stop to top off in Frisco I should be at the meet location a couple minutes early.

Obtw Weather.com forecast just got much much better. Only a couple hrs in the pm with chance for rain 30-40%.
