Default Week of May 14-20, want to wheel. Ideas

I have this whole week off. Originally was heading to Bowling Green, KY to take my 71 Buick Sportwagon to the Buick GS nationals. but looks like the wagon won't be ready. So next best thing, Wheel the Explorer.

Any ideas in trails to hit and that maybe open? I know weather dependent. I am itching to get the Explorer on the trails to have some fun.

Anyone like to meet up and join or lead me. Other that Slaughterhouse, most of the CO trails I have hit were in NOCO.

    Thanks
    Tim

Most trails are still gated that time of year but there are a few that aren’t. Expect deep snow and icy ruts.
Rock Creek and Yankee Hill don’t have gates.

Won’t be able to join you. Rig needs work and I have some health issues I have been dealing with.

Might be able to after all. Seems my jeep is ok. We could do Switzerland trail. Its a lower elevation and likely is clear of snow. Let me know if you are still interested.

Do you have any interest in Moab? I'll be going out there somewhere between Tuesday, May 16 and Thursday, May 18 and returning home on Sunday, May 21.

Open all year trails "up north" Bunce School Road & Ironclads (also nearby to those, but short-ish) is Dry Saint Vrain. Rock Creek is open all year. I could entertain getting out on those trails.

it is explorerforum.com. While not "official" annually we head to Moab, truck haven in Cali and a couple places for a get together. This will be the first time I have gone to the event. Me and my youngest are leaving late Monday or Early Tues. It is more than just Explorers. A couple new Broncos and maybe a Toyota or Jeep or 2.

Interesting, I never saw anything on there about meets ups, where can I find those threads? I will try to join one in the future!

If you want to connect, shoot me a PM. We can exchange numbers.

    Our itinerary is currently:

5/16 - I don't know, drive out there and find somewhere to camp
5/17 - Not sure again, be out there, camp, hike, whatever
5/18 - More I don't know, do something in Moab
5/19 - Fins & Things linked with Hells Revenge and possibly stargaze as this will be a new moon night
5/20 - The RR4W club trail of the month is this day, meeting at the grocery store in town, lots of Jeeps but I believe anyone is welcome. Then, maybe Turret Arch drive and hike.
5/21 - Go home at some point

After typing all that out, I'm considering running Dome Plateau on the 15, 16 or 17 actually now.

Dan with the Land Rover from here will be out there with his wife too. They're going to run Onion Creek and some of White Rim, I read it's, as of last week, impassible due to flooding. Maybe they'll want to do Dome Plateau with me instead.

    I could be.

Just drove a loop through Jamestown and down through peaceful valley. Still snow up high west of p2p.
pic of p2p just turning down peaceful valley

Bunce and Rock Creek would have snow/ice in places. Probably Miller Rock in places too. No snow at the turn off near Raymond and only isolated shaded spots above Jamestown near where the trail ends after the obstacle.

Which trail comes to mind? (not that it needs to be one or the other as all three are quite close)

The Explorer contingent meets at the City Market at 8am. Decide what trail to hit. Depending on how many could have 2 or more different trails. Usually mild-hard, the other extreme-you want to go where with my truck. A few guys like me are driving there rigs. So, they look at that too.

Mountaineer01 their trail runs are usually in the Offroad 4x4 Runs Planning and Discussion area. You are welcome to join us. either on-line for now or at Moab.

I am concerned about my stamina at the moment. Could try Miller Rock and if we get turned around by snow head over to dry st vrain.

Tim - this is a thread you started. While I stirred the waters for a May 14-20 run (May 14, Sunday), do you have a thought or wish for a trail? If you're a pass for this Sunday and want something later in the week - I'll jump out and will start a new thread for this Sunday. Thoughts?
