    I had an '88 extra cab SR5 with the V6. It would go anywhere off road and had good road manners as well. Wouldn't mind having it back, the only thing I had to do to it in 120k miles was an emergency brake cable. If I recall correctly, the '89 went with the one piece bed sides where prior years had the two which would rust at the seam.

    The FJ40 is one that I would also like "just because". The pricing is crazy for them unfortunately.

    I think by 88 it was IFS....Something like 85 or was the last solid front axle....those last year or two of the solid axle with EFI is the dream, but I'd take the 83 with solid axle and carb - I've been known to run carbs before.
