Looks awesome!
Looks awesome!
I'm hitting the map to see what your plan is!
Isak, that itinerary looks pretty awesome! 6 days is a hell of a trip. Need to talk to the wife because if I do this I wont have enough PTO to go anywhere over the holidays (fine by me, probably not her lol)

I would be down for an in person planning of this trip, get together, look at some maps, drink 20 long islands.... boom we have a trip planned! Thoughts? I'm thinking sometime before Feb 5, so the next two weeks.
I have two others who originally showed interest from my overlandbound group. I was thinking 6 rigs max and we'd just have to find two campsites closeish. My wife has to be back in town by the 21st at some point because she has to work on the 22nd in the morning to babysit some kids. The new moon is on the 17th so hopefully that's still okay. We both got really sick in WI and came back 4 days early, missed family Christmas and got to drive 2 days feeling ill, not fun. Haven't looked at this since then, almost back to 100% now after 3 weeks.
I looked at Isak's plan in more detail detail and I like it based on the map. We could probably head back to CO on day 5 if needed, just a really long day. Probably stop for a shower in Moab before the 6.5 hour drive home. I've got unlimited PTO so I've got whatever for time. Also, I know a guy who has some nice RV Starlink..... I like the hiking trails by The Doll House and Maze Overlook sites too.
Since we're not bringing the dog because she's not allowed in the park, I'll have extra room and I'm considering bringing my 2 burner Blackstone grill, could make some nice meals!
I'm very much down for an in-person planning meeting. I live in Denver by the zoo. Work schedule is all over the place right now but I'm free in the evenings except Jan 27-30.

Mike - I was thinking going from Wed 6/14 to Mon 6/19 in my initial timeline, so you guys will be back well before the 22nd.
I have some time after this weekend and before 2/5 if we do a meet up.

This book is excellent for scheming and dreaming about Canyonlands, it's spent countless hours in my bathroom. https://www.amazon.com/Canyonlands-N.../dp/0966085825

I posted an official Rally Point on overlandbound.com (https://www.overlandbound.com/event/...-moon-weekend/). If anyone wants to create an account there and RSVP, let me know. I've listed the max rigs as 4 over there since we don't want more than 6 and 3 of us here are committed right now. Since we're not bringing the dog, the seats in the Jeep can go down and I'll have tons of space, I'm thinking of bringing my 22" Blackstone for some nice meals. Maybe someone different can cook something each night? I don't know, would be good to discuss in an in-person planning session. I'd be down for a half way meet, I know Jim is up North by me but Isak shows Denver. Otherwise we could all meet at someones place too. I think the plan that Isak presented is good. I mapped it in Gaia, assuming I have the correct route, I show 242 miles from Hanksville to Hanksville (https://www.gaiagps.com/map/?loc=8.7...a-e5c8c2aad95e). I'll probably get myself a 5 gallon tank to bring along, gives me an excuse to spend some money on the Jeep! "but wife, we NEED this or we'll DIE! "
Was there any thought to having one end of the dirt be in OR out via Poison Springs road (vs. the northern / formal entrance that's listed on the map for both in and out). Poison Springs perhaps would take longer - but the scenery is "more better".
I have track logs with drive times from the past visit if that'd help.
Jim - I was planning on going in through Poison Springs road and going out the Southern route of Flint Trail road, so we would avoid the “formal” entrance all together.
Sweet! I could "pass" on the formal northern entrance. I would like to see the southern entrance route!
The Gaia URL Mike posted has shows an in/out via the formal 'north' entrance - that's where I'm seeing the info.
Dollhouse to the river via Spanish Bottom Trail
Approx 1.2 miles with 1200 feet elevation difference.

What do you guys use to look at GPX or GAIA files? I don’t have an app that can open them. As for the campsites, I think if we log in right on the 10th we should be able to book whatever we want since this part of the park is less used, but I guess we’ll find out.
