8/13 Mosquito Pass-Lunch Leadville-Return via Weston Pass

I researched vrbo's as someone suggested, but vrbo/airbnb/tripadvisor were mostly booked up for the weekend of this trip and the total price doubles the original price booking. This surprised me as I have used VRBO since 2001. It would have been nice to do a group overnight to the Forest Service Weston Hut that sleeps 12 but those booked up within minutes, this year on March 1st, I believe. I would know how fast, as I had only a couple minutes to book one firetower lookout and 2 Forest Service Guard Stations in March. Maybe save for another year and book as soon as reservations open? It would be definitely be lots of fun to stay in a group cabin or similar in the future. Someone mentioned staying in Fairplay the 12th. I suggest researching a place and put it out there on this post if you find something and see how much interest you can drum up. 2 of us might support your endeavor to get to know some others in the group. Let us know your find...

DATE: August 13, Saturday
MEET: Exxon Station in Fairplay
TIME: 9:00am
AirDown: Trailhead
CB: Start on channel 10 & change if busy.
LUNCH: Somewhere in Leadville-Group decision
Return: Weston Pass - I have seen the aspens change August 1st, I think this trail will be pretty spectacular by August 13th.
Dogs: Ok-but not sure about lunch spot the group decides. Just keep this in mind and owners please pick up waste.
Leash def in town-but consider NOT losing your furry family member if not leashed on the trail. Your choice...but we would rather not lose anyone.

Please respond and let me know if you plan to participant. I don't plan to be ONE Jeep on Mosquito Pass. If there is a big weather disturbance that risks safety, the trip might cancel, but I don't think with a little rain anyone will melt. Just prepare...

Tom, is it possible that permissions are turned off? The only box open for me to post on the calendar is the Title, date, time and comment section. In the correct area the date, time, meet, etc. are not highlighted in a box, so I am not able to enter any information other than the area I was able to post. Maybe that is the correct place to post that info? Can you help me get this posted correctly and turn on any permissions necessary for a blank box to show up so I can enter information?

Hello Donna Gail, you should be able to edit the text and date/time of your calendar entry. The tile of the calendar entry (and the title of any forum thread), should they need to be changed is an admin task - just let me know and I'll get it done.

Yes, Tom. Coming from Denver on 285 it is the Exxon convenience store past the traffic light. Not to be confused with the Phillips 66 before the traffic light. Exxon is past the light and past Riverside Inn. We can line up on the east edge of the parking lot.

To anyone not aware hwy 285 is closed just to the North of where county road 22 (Weston Pass) joins. It looks to me that one can turn on county rd 5 and avoid the closure when heading back to Fairplay. Think I took it last time I drove Weston. Good road iirc.

Yes...we returned from wheeler/mosquito near alma/fairplay back to Leadville via Weston on Monday. You can skirt the construction on county Rd 5
FWIW...Weston is bumpy...maybe in modern rig it's ok, but it was teeth rattling in old CJs

I marked myself as a maybe. I hurt my neck a few weeks ago but am feeling really great since Saturday. I don't want to commit and then back out before I know that I can feel good all day in the Jeep.

Just looked in the calendar section for this weekends Mosquito Pass trip. I see only 2 maybe now. Am I looking at this correctly? I will cancel if no one plans to show up. Not as much fun without others joining.
