    Default Adopt-a-Trail Clean-Up Run: 7/9/2022

I'll go ahead and get the report thread started.

Thanks again to everyone for coming out to help wit the adopt-a-trail clean up runs today. I'll have a handful of pictures up shortly, but the Devil's canyon run went smoothly. There wasn't much trash. All in we probably picked up 12-15 gallons worth.

Please feel free to post your pictures. I'd like to cherry pick a few to pass along to Brent at the USFS. If there are any you wish to share here but would prefer I do not pass along just let me know in the thread or shoot me a PM.

Life on Barbour Fork today had a bit of spice...

Noah (nds24) was a first time for the trail. Max and Mike & family (mtm) split off for the meadow cleanup while Noah and I headed for the other trail area. The two areas do not currently meet - the landowner gated the property at each property line. The trail system is now in-n-out for each side.

Noah and I headed up the "wheel wave" / "high five" obstacle. I went first while he hung back for me to get some pictures. The typical wheel lift happened - but then it went onto its side. I was the spotter so I take responsibility for it. Fortunately, his pass side slider looks to have kept the body panels and window glass off of the ground - initial review is a sign of relief (TBD once a good review at home takes place).

Right when it happened, Eric (FatBoris), traveling solo, poked his head over the top of the hill and said - you guy's want a hand?! Certainly. His winch was used to hold Noah from sliding down the hill while my winch and a convenient, sturdy pine tree were able to pull the Toyota onto its tires. Some short starter-key bumping of the motor to see if there was any oil filled cylinder a decision was made to start it - only a faint, single puff of blue smoke from the exhaust.

Noah, I'm sorry for that "experience"...

EDIT: Max/Mike/Family were able to be reached via radio so they jumped over to the flop and we became one group.

The camper was a mess (on the ground, around the camper - a huge mess inside from what could be seen through the small door). We took some of mess on the way in with a plan to stop on the way out and grab more.

Aside from that, traffic was light - perhaps twenty other vehicles. Three sets of hikers. One dirt bike. Temps were more enjoyable up higher. The place is cleaner from our visit - but a "huge haul" of junk - there wasn't a significant amount that needed removal (thankfully).

Ouch. We had a rough idea something happened as we could hear you guys on GMRS from devil's canyon. Glad nobody was hurt. I like the victory photo.

Definitely some spice on Barbour Fork today! Big thanks to both Jim and Eric to helping me get out of that one, and Jim, by no means do you need to take responsibility -- I was willing to take the risk! We all know and love this hobby and sometimes this is just part of it. I was lucky enough to have both you and Eric nearby to assist in the recover. We all made it out with no real damage or injury. The 4Runner escaped largely unscathed with only a dent on the passenger rear hatch/quarter panel, mainly thanks to the rock sliders. It was a good learning experience for me and like I told both Jim and Mike (mtm), I'm glad I had the seatbelt clipped in to hold me at that angle. Moving forward I'll be a little more cautious about the lines I take as I try to avoid something like that for the rest of my wheeling career.

Thanks to Trevor for organizing the run, it was great to meet some more folks on the forum in person. Barbour Fork was a beautiful and challenging trail and the weather couldn't have been more perfect.

Some more pics of the 4Runner below.

Ah bummer on the dent. Fortunate that the glass didn't break.

That dent will be a certain reminder of the event!

Alright. Here's the only video I got of the Hummer pulling the front tire.

What a fun day for the family!

Well, we got about halfway through the run before I remembered I should snap some pictures. I am not much of a photographer.

This is Cory's (KornRunner) 2nd run through this little pocket. His first attempt produced an impressive wheelstand, at least it was impressive until we saw the Barbour Fork pics. Unfortunately I couldn't park and get back in time for the shot and he had backed up to clear a small tree. Part of me is glad he was able to park his offroad trailer in the big clearing early in the run, however that would have been impressive to watch I bet.

I gotta say Gilbert's (GilbertR) Cherokee was a bit of a dark horse. It marched right up everything just fine.

Chris (RivetDRivet) put a wheel way up in the air as well. Fortunately Jason (JGRubacon) caught that on video because I didn't quite catch the apex. That H3 is a nice truck. If anyone has a recommendation for an air fitting to seal against a fairly short GM tire valve I'm sure Chris would appreciate that. We had trouble airing him up at the end of the day as the 4 or 5 chucks we tried couldn't quite seal and depress his valve core.

This is my USFS shot. Volunteers at work! If anyone has any more cleaning or group shots that I can pass on to Brant I would appreciate it.

Would this work or do you need a bend in it?

It would definitely be worth trying. It seemed like that arb was working until we put air behind it, then it just leaked out, I'd imagine my old angled one that I keep in the garage would work, it does not need to press on very far.

Wow! Looks like a spicy day indeed. Noah, you seem like a great sport, glad no injuries or expensive damage! Also, awesome to see that Hummer and KL Trailhawk out there, love seeing different rigs. I’ve wanted to trade in my non-TH KL for a TH but could never justify the cost…
