    Default Adopt-a-Trail Clean-up Run (July 2022)

Hello all - its that time of year again when we begin thinking about Adopt-a-trail. I will be handing off responsibility of coordinating our twice yearly AAT runs to Trevor - many thanks Trevor for volunteering to do this. The USFS is running a bit behind getting the AAT program up and running this year, but they contacted me and informed me that both BF and DC will be opening on schedule this week, and that the AAT work will continue as usual. So we need to get some preferred dates that we can get great turn out for our July clean-up - the idea here is to do a clean-up soon after the heavy usage on 4th of July holiday weekend. Please select any and all dates you would be able to attend....As usual, the USFS' (and Trevor's) schedule availability may factor into the final date chosen. Many thanks!

Glad to contribute. Thanks to James for spelling out the program to me, and for all his coordination over the years. It seems pretty straight forward. It was probably much more challenging to set this all up then it will be to keep it going.

Thanks to everyone who has responded to the poll so far. My current plan is to collect poll responses from people up until Sunday, at which time I will share our best options with Brant at the USFS and work out what day works best for both him and the club. I would expect to get an official trail run set on our calendar by Monday or Tuesday.

A couple of bits of news about the trails:

    • They plan to open the gates to both trails tomorrow according to Brant.
    • A private landowner has gated and fenced a portion of Barbour Fork. This is in the big meadow near that shelter structure. The Forrest Service has no ability to fight for access to it as it is private land. There does not appear to be an easement or other legal right to the route. This means access to the southern part of the road system must go though the 'western' route. Brant is concerned that the public will vandalize the gates and fence but that is the landowners problem.
    • Someone abandoned a popup camper in Barbour Fork. The FS is working with law enforcement to get approval to remove the camper. It's unclear if they will need our help dragging it out but there is aparantly a 'big mess' around it and that will need some of our focused attention. It's likely that we will put a few extra people on the Barbor Fork route as a result.

While I'll go to whichever trail needs the hand, I'd like to see the changes & camper at Barbour.

This is likely the same camper from last visit...

Sorry I'm going to miss it. I'm going to be on vacation all 3 of those weekends, so I guess I can't be mad, haha!

I can bring the Gladiator or Rebel to help drag the camper out on the 9th or maybe the 10th, but the other weekends are already spoken for.

Thanks to everyone for responding. It looks like 9th, 23rd, and 16th are our best weekends in that order. I'll pass that along to the forrest service and schedule the run as soon as I have a confirmaton from their end.

It took a little longer to get it dialed in, but we are scheduled with the USFS for July 9th. I'll have a trail run on the calendar shortly.
