Jeep Wrangler Catalytic Converter Theft

I kept worrying about my Wrangler getting the cat stolen these days, so I looked into it and it looks like with the engine I have, there are two small cats, and they are tucked up in the engine bay. One on each side of the exhaust system near the engine. So, there's no need to worry if you have the same setup as mine.

I have some high heat orange spray paint if anyone wants to hit theirs to try to deter people from taking yours. Ask me why I have that lol. Then use a rotary tool or etching device, write the last eight digits of your VIN on it. Let me know!

Is your gas tank protected from drill bit draining?

Does the orange paint bring a premium price for the scrappers when your stolen cat is sold?

Nothing extra for the gas tank. There is an OEM skidplate on it.

The paint is to prevent them from stealing it in the first place, because it takes work to remove it. And it draws attention to it, maybe they'll take notice of the VIN as well and move onto another vehicle.

I sure am not in a wrangler, but I built a "cage" skid for my jeep XJ after my toyota pick-up got it's cat stolen.

My mounting (and even the shape of the cat) is entirely different....but it didn't take me too much time. Just passing on some ideas for those with an angle grinder and welder. I am currently thinking of how to build one for my Toyota.

On my jk I looked. To even see the passenger cat one must remove the inner fender. That involves removing the front tire with a jack. Mine is parked in the drive with my motion sensitive lights and camera obvious. Lights are leds and light my yard and 2/3 the way across the street.

I am not worried.

Thieves can't steal my catalytic converter since my Jimny doesn't have one

Actually it's exactly 1 year too old - they came with them stock starting in '92, which is also when they added power steering and optional automatic transmissions.

My Explorer has sprung a hefty exhaust leak so I probably wouldn't even notice if its went missing.
