Default 04/16/2022 Annual Spring Anniversary Run Mini-Moab

Reconnaissance was successful see Planning Thread
Spring anniversary run planning? - Page 2 (frontrange4x4.com)

Due to the anticipated crowds, I am thinking of setting up base camp or at least the initial meeting place at the large clearing 1/2 mile above the main staging area. To get to base camp start at the Rainbow Falls OHV staging area. Go east on Long Hollow Rd, pass the outhouses on the right. Continue uphill making a sharp left turn, then a sweeping right turn. Turn right at the first intersection from Long Hollow Road onto FR344. Base camp will immediately to your right as you make the turn onto FR344. I have not decided whether to set up base camp the evening of Friday 4/15. Anyone interested in camping? Either way I plan to be at base camp no later than 8:30A Saturday 4/16. If everyone is in base camp by 10:00A, we can decide to keep base camp where it is or move it to the top or bottom of Mini-Moab. This will depend on the level of rigs folks will be driving. I saw bone stock Toyotas and full-size pick-up trucks make it easily to Mini-Moab. It may be fun to set up base camp at Mini-Moab and hangout. There is sure to be lots of entertainment, watching rigs tackle the various obstacles that Mini-Moab has to offer.

From base camp continuing east on FR344 for 1.26 miles you will reach Mini-Moab. There are a lot of other mild trails throughout the region that would make for some good exploring. We could do it as a large group or smaller group(s) and return to base camp for refreshments.

I plan to bring a 10x10 pop up canopy, table, chairs, and a small tabletop propane grill, and of course an ice chest filled with beverages. Let me know if anyone is interested in a potluck lunch. I can start by offering up hot dogs, homemade chili and fixin's. Depending on how many folks want to join us, we can build upon this list with main courses, munchies, deserts, etc., anything anyone wants to bring and share.

It is going to be fun to see old friends and as well as make new ones. I hope we get a large turn out and so far, the weather looks like it will cooperate.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or just post it on the calendar.

    That's surprising!

Though, if it's like the typical anniversary run at China Wall it can be blizzard in Denver and sunny and nice at China Wall.

Here's the 10 day forecast for Woodland Park. I will monitor as the week goes by. As long as there is no severe winds, I think we will be good to go!!!

I assume the camping spots near the beginning get filled up pretty quickly, correct?

I know the fenced staging area near the outhouses fills up very quickly. When I was there last Saturday the campsites along South Rainbow Falls Road were all taken, but nobody was in the area that I have marked as "base camp" above the main staging area. I'm assuming the base camp area was empty because the winding road up to it is not really suitable for motorhomes. I guess it depends on what your driving. There was a Sprinter van camping in an open area just west of the intersection of Long Hollow Rd and FR344.

I'd bet money on you breaking something on your truck given your history with anniversary runs. Never would have bet your house would break instead this time. :-)

lol yes hopefully the only thing this weekend.

those garage door springs scare me though so there is no chance i want to mess with it even though my friend is trying to convince me it's relatively easy once you release it

Hope you get your truck out. If you decide to drive through the garage door...please film it.

Quick update on the Woodland Park, on Fort Carson Fire. Just and FYI for those coming from the south through Woodland Park. I called Teller County Sheriff's Department and they could not tell me if travel on Hwy 67 from Woodland Park to Triple B area is effected. I will be coming from the north through Deckers, so I don't think it will be a problem.

Firefighters working a wildfire north of Woodland Park have reached 25% containment, according to the Teller County Sheriff's Department.Officials with the Teller County Sheriff's Office lifted mandatory evacuation and pre-evacuation orders just before 9 p.m. Thursday for the Triple B Ranch Road and Red Rocks areas as well as for the area 1 mile north of Mills Ranch Road and 1 mile east of Sour Dough Road and for Lovell Gulch Road.

Want me to bring the hi-lift and crow bar over to get that door up? I'm in Colorado Springs tonight, brought my wife and rented a hotel. Fingers crossed she will feel well enough tomorrow to come out with us.

Haha I considered it if I couldn't get it fixed. Luckily a young kid came and swapped out the springs in no time so I'm good to go.

Hoping your wife is up for the trip and look forward to seeing everyone!
