Default Feeler: Fourmile Area, Weekend of April 23-24

Considering spending a night or two in the Fourmile area the weekend of the 23rd and running the trails on both north and south sides. It's a fun area with some great hikes, miles of easy 4x4 trails that are stocker friendly, chinaman gulch, carnage canyon, and lots of camping. Weather depending of course.

If this thread wasn't already posted, I was just about to post asking if anyone wanted to wheel down there.

I live right up in Leadville - the snow has already melted around town here (though it's still higher up on the surrounding mountains) and when I drove to Twin Lakes a couple of days ago the only snow was in the trees on the north-facing slopes, so at least the exposed trails on the north end of Fourmile are likely already totally clear.

I'm hoping to get out this weekend, though I'm always down for those trails.

I love that area too. I'd be up for Chinaman Gulch or just explore new terrain.

Glad there's interest! If the forecast looks good in a week or so I'll post up a meetup for saturday morning, probably at the trailhead by 311 / 285 since it's the closest to Denver.

If Chinaman's is in the list I'll have to ride with someone else or spectate. Maybe Gerald won't notice if I try to tell him his LJ is mine and mine is his....

I'm thinking that as well, I'm moreso just interested in the easier scenic trails in the area. I might be interested in pushing my rig's limits later in the year but I don't want to start off my wheeling season worrying about trail damage 😬

I'm thinking easy too, Chinaman's is the hardest trail I've done in my LJ and I took some damage doing it. Everything on the north side is easy, and everything on the south side is easy except for Chinamans and Carnage. Easy does not mean boring here, its a fun place to drive.

Absolutely. Shane and I went last spring and the scenery was fantastic. We hiked up to the Natural Bridge, too.

    Here's a map from https://garna.org/friends-of-fourmile-2/

I'm thinking taking 311 west to 376 to 376A to 304, cross 285 to 301 to 300 to 187 to 308 to 318 ending up across the road from where we started.

I've never run the trails south of 24/285. That would be 301/300/187/308/318. Should be good new adventure

I'm interested. Last time I wheeled in that area, I was so hungover that I rode in a GC for the day. And wouldn't you know, I had the only Jeep with no trail damage

Weather looks good for the weekend, nice days but the nights are still a little cold, I'm going to hold off on camping a couple of weeks. I can do either Friday or Saturday for the run below. Prefer Friday, always prefer weekdays, but Saturday works too. We can meet up here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/38...!4d-105.977584

at 10-11:00, we can figure that out.

I can't do weekdays but I'd do Saturday. I'm flexible on the time, I'll wait for the folks such as yourself who are driving further to decide on that.

I still want to camp Fri night => Saturday if I'm going down. Looks to me like it should be low of 38 / high of 62 Friday, which sounds like good "sleeping in the jeep" weather to me. It's a very long drive for a day trip.

I'd be willing to postpone this for a couple of weeks, I'm going to be coming up from Gunnison either day so it's a drive for me too. Maybe in May?
