Since I bought the jeep (um, err, we won't say how long ago) the rear shackles have been too short. The rear springs readily hit max shackle rotation even on street driving.
The top of the rear spring eye has been hitting the underside of the frame long enough / hard enough to, as James would say, "automatically clearance" the parts. The bottom of the frame does not exist.
I had been looking at longer shackles for the past few years but hadn't found any from the major sellers that would fit (most had a welded center component). I finally came across Barnes 4WD and they offered exactly what I wanted - in two sizes. Not knowing which would be best I went with both 5" & 6". The longer 6" size is available - anyone interested? Greasable shackle bolt kits were used too - anything I can get for a smoother ride would be appreciated.
After much procrastination for a reasonably simple task, the swap out was tended this weekend. The rear tire / wheel well, compared to the front, at first glance looks more even. All along, the jeep had a bit too much squat in the rear compared to the front.
