Default New Years Day run - Gulches if dry, Schubarth if snowy

Dave and I hopped on the phone and discussed New Years Day. We decided if weather stays dry and warm we will run the Gulches. If it gets snowy and cold between now and NYD we will run Schubarth loop. There was plenty of interest in the trail planning thread so now we are proposing a backup in case we get snow and the Gulches would be quite challenging where Schubarth is easier but a great snow run for all levels of experience.
We will have to make the call a day or two before and then can decide on meetup locations and time. Since the Northern folks like me have 2-3 hours drive to get there we will probably have meetup in Sedalia for the Gulches and Dave will have to chime in with meetup for Schubarth since I haven’t done that one.
Please chime in here to let us know who’s interested and I’ll get the official event posted once we have a few more details figured out.

If it's Schubarth try to get your wife to go Scott, it's not bumpy, no exposure that I recall, and just stunning views.

Solid maybe here too. What time are you meeting up, and which gulch do you want to do first? I'm guessing Metberry? It might be easier for me to meet up at the trailhead.

I just changed the meetup to meet at Westcreek at 930am. It’ll take me about 3 hours to get there so that’s probably the earliest I could meet. How does that sound?

Weather should be good for the Gulches on NYD according to weather.com, however it’ll be extremely cold with a high of 20 and a low of 5. I don’t see any snow forecasted before then down there currently either!

It’s going to be chilly folks! Right now we have 6 confirmed drivers with 6 Maybe’s and perhaps a couple others joining. We will likely need to split into two groups but we will see how many folks show up!

Been working on my front end off and on since last Thursday. It's all back together, a few more adjustments to the steering and track-bar, and good to go! So looking forward to getting out with you all.

Wanting to confirm that My stock Dakota will be fine to take up. I would hate to stall anyone.
I have never been off roading with it the DD.
It's OK to tell me No haha there will be no hard feelings.
    I'll understand.
Last IFS truck I went wheeling with was a Toyota pick up on 33's 12 or so years ago up carnage Canon.

    I miss that place 😪

I can’t tell you if you Dakota will be fine, but is it 4 wheel drive? Does it have 4Lo? Does it have good off-roading tires on it? If you answered yes to those question then it should be just fine. If you answered no to any of the questions, it probably isn’t a good idea to bring it along.
    You make the call 😁

Well forecast has changed a bit, more snow expected now but still not enough to go to our backup plan. I noticed Trent changed to a No and Paul to a Maybe so I’m guessing folks are starting to see the extreme cold and opting out. We might have a small group on Saturday but that’s ok, I’ll be there!

I will bring snow chains and all my recovery gear, but I don’t have a winch yet. Looking forward to wheeling on NYD!!

I'm actually prepping my Jeep today for this, but I'm going to make it a game-time decision. I have a busy NYE at work that is getting busier as Covid testing shuts down travel (not complaining!) and I want to see what the weather does.

Might be a good option although I don’t think I can make Sunday, there’s talk of a big storm coming in Friday and Saturday where even Denver and Boulder get snow both days. If we do get a bunch of snow I’m not sure I’ll be able to make it since I’m 3 hours from Westcreek in good conditions.
I haven’t seen any official storm warnings yet…… so I’m not calling it quits yet.

The weather looks better for skiing than wheeling. I have to make tough choices sometimes. Have fun out there.
