I’m thinking of maybe starting on the 12th, running a couple nearby trails or some on the way! I’m not sure if I’ll be coming from SoCal or Colorado at that time yet. I’m also thinking about taking my off-road trailer along, although I won’t be able to haul it along the entire Hole in The Rock, I may have to leave it for at least one night while we run to the end and back. I will have wheel lock boots to ensure it isn’t stolen. It has a fridge/freezer, stove, sink with running hot water, a shower & holds over 30 gallons of water.

We could spend 2 or 3 nights on HITR, depends what everyone is up for. I'm definitely not in a rush and would prefer to take our time, find some amazing campsites, scout ahead and play on obstacles, record videos and take pictures, etc, etc. It will be 9 or 10 hours drive if going directly to the trailhead, which would mean camping pretty close to the trailhead most likely. 14th-18th is the hard cut-off dates with the original idea to travel on the 14th, run the trail on the 15th, 16th and the 17th. Heading back home on the 18th. Most likely it won't take us 3 nights on the trail but perhaps we decide to meet at the trailhead mid-late morning on the 15th, head up and spend the 15th and 16th and then hit other trails on the 17th on the way back home...... I'm up for anything, but keeping the original dates the 14th-18th set aside specifically for HITRT.

Just north of this trail are some very intriguing trails that we could potentially add on to this trip. Jacobs Chair is moderate loop trail off 95 that looks very cool and I've been curious about for a while. Piute Pass North & South run from 95 south to Red canyon road, and both of these are rated 3.0 (difficult) and I've read there are some serious pucker sections on these trails. There's more than a handful of others in the area too.

These ladies do the trail in/out in 9 hours. I've never seen the section A 1:15 in any other videos. Around 1:30 is what I think is the end of the trail at Lake Powell.

good clips in this one too

Yea that’s definitely not from HITRT, this trail doesn’t come within a couple miles of Lake Powell. Good video otherwise!

A little check in on this...I am starting to think about planning. Debating whether to the drive the jeep all the way there and back, pull the jeep to near the trailhead and leave the taco for a few days, or just drive and wheel the tacoma. Do we have a planned meeting spot, like where the dirt trail leaves hwy 276 on the morning of the 15th...or just meet at the marina for gas and whatnot. Looks like a days drive if I am pulling the jeep, and would plan to camp or motel the night of the 14th at halls crossing. Maybe could leave my truck somewhere there. I might be convinced to drive the jeep the entire way, possibly following more mellow/dirt routes if someone was interested to group up. That would probably mean jeep camping somewhere in eastern UT, and the early roading to the trailhead, as long as we were somewhere in the 3hr range from the trailhead, assuming something like a 10am meet-up. Whose thinking what?

I'm interested in the mellow dirt road extra night camping idea.

Open to suggestions...it's only a couple hours from Blanding to the trailhead, so as long as we camp sorta near the La sal mts, we should be fine to get to the trailhead at a reasonable hour. It would require an early dept from Denver, as it's at least 4hrs to dirt in western CO (and I'll be cruising in a 50 year old jeep)....I am good with alpine starts....if we found dirt or gravel by 2pm, we could cruise for quite awhile before camping.

One possibility could be driving the kokopelli trail .... although the road used to start near Loma, that easter terminus only MTB, so start is in rabbit valley...follow it to Dewey bridge, then it goes past ToW and I think it becomes Thompson canyon and up rise garden hill. Camp somewhere out near sand flats, and then it's mostly roading the jeeps to near Halls crossing the next morning.

Ty, Shane and I camped in the mountains west of Monticello on our fall 2020 trip. There seems to be a lot of camping up that way.

I don't know anything about the Kokopeli Trail specifically. Rose Garden hill scared me off in 2019. From the base of rose garden hill onion creek is the obvious alternate route out, so at least there are options.
