We just ran a little of the Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route near Steamboat and CR 16 from 134 to Stagecoach Reservoir is IMO the prettiest part. 134 was a nice surprise too, one of the nicest paved roads I've ever been on. Getting up there we also drove Cottonwood Pass / 55 near Granby, and on the way back Beaver Creek / 50. Both were OK, nothing great but better than the highway. The Flat Tops Scenic Byway from Meeker to Yampa is beautiful, and while not a destination on it's own, it's a great way to avoid a lot of I-70. The road to Trapper's Lake is both gorgeous and sad; the beetle kill and fire damage is terrible on one side of the road, the forest is stunning on the other. Near the East Fork of Williams Fork River we saw a Shepherd and a Kuvas herding a huge flock of sheep, it was surprisingly interesting and we watched for a while. It was quiet up there, we hardly saw anyone and the colors are just starting to turn.
