    Default SYE

Got a Ford 8.8 with 4.88s front and rear installed in my yj. What a difference from the stock 4.11s! Any way after installing we found my springs had a 6* shim (should have noticed on removal but didn’t) so I figured I would just do a SYE and double cardan DS. Anyone have any pointers? It’s the Advanced adapters SYE and I’ll be using a Bills Englewood driveshaft. From the instructions it says to press out the needle bearings from the main drive gear since it’s a pre 97, is there any way I can do that without bringing it to someone with a press? Or is there anyone in the Lakewood area that would let me use theirs? I’ll have this weekend to figure it out and get it finished as it’s my daily driver.

    thanks in advance

I have a Harbor Freight press you can borrow. Ive used it on some wheel bearings and works fine. Not in Lakewood but close in west Arvada. 64th and Indiana basically.

I've removed a blind needle bearing in my NP 271 case by picking out the rollers, grinding a relief in the lip of the outer shell and then folding it in on itself with a pair of vice grips. It sounds like you're not going to need this bearing again after you remove it so something similar may work.

Its unclear from the instructions (if I have the correct ones... https://storage.googleapis.com/advan...f?1630461300=1) if you have access to the bearing from the rear. If so, you could tap it out from the bottom with a brass drift or another punch going around and around the circumference. You'll probably bend the lip of the outer shell, but again it appears that this bearing is not needed for your kit.

I was thinking I could just tap around, definitely won’t need the bearing again. The output on the fixed yoke is a fair bit larger.

Thank you, I’m going to try tapping it out first and if that doesn’t work I’ll give you a shout! West Arvada isn’t too far
