    Default Hola from West Denver

    Hello,
My name is Sabin and I live on the west side of Denver in Lakewood. I’ve lived in Colorado my entire life and spent a year on the Western Slope which I absolutely loved! I don’t have a lot of off road experience but I’ve camped a lot and travelled with friends and family. Now I have my own 2021 Tacoma that is perfect for my trips! I’m not into super technical off-roading, more overlanding and traveling distances, encountering unexpected terrain.

I’m a weekend warrior who does IT all week and likes to escape to the high-country to disconnect. I don’t always head west, occasionally east, to meet up on friend's land and photograph birds or fish... I have a dog named Rebel who likes to disturb everything but I love him and he’s great on the road!

Currently I’ve done a couple trails. Rimrocker, from Montrose to Moab, and EDIT[Rollins Pass East]* area. I would like to make friends with people who off-road, overland, and camp. I usually off road locally to test my setup, when ready go for a two- or three-night trail, eventually hoping to make it multiple weeks across country. I love getting out of the city!

Have a look at some of my photos. My topper doesn’t match in real life but everything else is nice and it works for travelling and staying dry at night!

Welcome from the old fart here. We have wheelers of all types here. You will fit in fine.

Tell me more about the James Peak trail, I only know of Kingston Peak that runs between St. Mary’s Glacier and James Peak. That photo doesn’t look like Kingston. Loch Lomond or Chinns lake?

Oops... Yes thanks @Tom this is Rollins Pass East and I think I was looking at too many maps yesterday lol... This trail went up to a tunnel that was only accessible by foot, you have to park a bit down from the tunnel and I added another photo. There were a lot of people heading up to visit and camp yesterday afternoon. the road was fine but bumpy and slow. The weather was great, cool, and the smell of fall approaching. https://imgur.com/fa50t22

I'm having some trouble with maps and apps.

You're speaking my language now. Last September a few of us ran Rimrocker to Monticello, then up Beef Basin into Canyonlands Needles, back to Moab for a few days, then to CO. In May, another group of us spent 5 days in the Maze district of Canyonlands N.P. There are writeups in the trail run reports. I'm looking for more 3-7 day trips like this and a few good wheelers to enjoy the adventures with.

That's great to hear! I'm always looking for new adventure partners and can get time off from work. Even if my rig isn't capable for parts of trips, (because river, rocks, clearance) it's a great transporter on regular roads for pickup/drop-off. I'm open to rafts and canoes for trips too. I've done Green River and the Colorado river a couple times on canoe/raft. A lot of those trips are "pack everything you need for a week" and survive. I have that down. The car aspect with a pet is a little new to me.

I was just up that way yesterday looking at Moffat Tunnel (if you go straight instead of taking a right and heading up the mountain). The tunnel you visited used to go straight through to Winter Park I think.

When I started the trail I thought I would end up in Winter Park but had to turn around. I'm getting better maps lol... it was a cool trip but I've always been curious about dropping down into Winter Park area!

Just to reinforce his "old fart" title, Tom has stories of riding the full road Rollinsville <> Winter Park.

Yes sir, I remember going all the over as a child in my dad’s station wagon several times. Once they closed the tunnel that was the end of it. Driving the trestles was something else.

XC skied it once from Eldora to Winter Park. Trestles were drifted and scary as s#@t skiing across.
