apparently from those in the know, this jeep was originally built by Ed Holbrook - known for Holbrook springs. No idea what one would do with it...

Put on the bobcat tracks - ultimate Sand Hollow recovery vehicle. Take the tracks off and the long line PTO driven winch could reach out for a long winch load.

It's a custom truck so who knows how it's configured, but some other 3 axle conversions are intended to drive from one axle on the road. When the terrain causes your extra rear axle to take pressure off of your drive axle, this happens.

Regardless, it does look really cool.

If you read the details, its configured with two rear driveshafts - one from the centered D20 output, and then modified with an offset D18 output as well. The centered D20 driveshaft passes over the the first rear axle and goes to the second axle. The offset D18 drives the first rear axle same as it does on mine - meaning the rear axles have pumpkins that are not 'inline'. The front axle is also driven through the offset D18/20 t-case - all axles are D44 (although I think one of the rear ones is in a ford housing). Definitely a one-off build - its been featured a few times over the years in mags - mostly back in the 70-80s I believe. Ed Holbrook was a early founding members of Jolly Jeepers and his long leaf springs were the standard go to for flat fender jeeps until very recently. I think Rocky Road or somebody like that bought them out, but they seem to have ended production... A quick google will bring you lots of info...its unclear if the current seller really knows much about it. I think it sold on ewillys only a few years ago.

Definitely. You can see the two rear drive shafts in one of the pictures. Looks like the one for the rear-most axle is a two piece, with a carrier bearing to route it over the other (middle?) axle.

I think that ford 6x6 is the same way. I bet when driving on the asphalt one is inclined to put both cases in 2-high. It probably saves wear on one of the cases as well as scrubs tires a little less. The ford guy maybe cant get the case to shift his second rear axle into gear (electric maybe? Bound up?), or maybe the person driving it has no idea how it works.

I bet these things eat tires pretty fast. Turning is also probably difficult. It would be really impractical except for the purpose of just being incredibly awesome.

I'd love to see a video of someone driving one around town, going to the grocery store, parallel parking, spinning tires on an incline, and being totally psyched and enthusiastic about it the whole time anyway.... because they should be.
