Default Miller Rock - Sunday July 11, 2021

Shane contacted me asking when I'm going to get a run report going?!?! In my mind - there's no rule as to who starts it - first home to the keyboard perhaps.

Weather was quite nice - full sun but not hot. The creek was flowing well (just above axle height).

This is perhaps the only pic to post - Shane lofting a tire...

I didn't want to step on any toes, had it in my mind for some reason that ride organizer tended to do the ride report and I thought you liked to do blog posts Jim so didn't want to conflict, but will remember in the future that anyone can kick one off. I got some decent pics, and gave Nick my camera for a while when he parked his Bronco and he took a few really good pictures as well.

After we finished up at Miller Rock Jim and Ty headed home and the other four of us (Nick, Ron, Isak, and me) ended up caravanning back to Nederland and on the way took a quick detour through Caribou to get muddy. The mud pits were good fun that day, Nick and I both used it as a rare opportunity to use some of that horsepower our rigs have and powered through. Isak didn't struggle all day even though he is still on street tires but they finally met their match in the mud pit so I gave him a tug out of it. Ron then walked right through the pit in his Gladiator on 37" tires and then gave another pull to the Jeep we met on the trail who wasn't able to get through it either.

To prevent cross-contamination or some sort of embarassing international incident we made sure G-Wagens pulled G-Wagens out and Jeeps pulled Jeeps out.

Pics are here, definitely check out the mud pit videos at the end if you like that sort of thing, they are only about a minute each and pretty fun. Nick's Bronco just sings as he is climbing out.

Just realized the videos have no sound on imgur, I'll upload them to youtube and link them back here in a few hours, they are worth hearing

Isak finally hitting the limits of what he could do on street tires. I was super impressed with them overall though and it's not like we have much mud around here.

We found this Jeeper scoping out the mud sections when we arrived. Seeing some help arrive he took a shot at them but wasn't able to get out of the second so Ron gave him a quick pull with his Gladiator. He appeared to have rear lockers but not front, not sure if that would have been enough to get him out but that thing sure had some articulation.

Me coming down the same obstacle. Jim mentions a mistake in his spotting at the end, his mistake was not realizing how crappy my turning radius is

Jim strolled right down this rock on his own, and back up it as well, then the rest of us who attempted it wisely leaned on his spotting skills. This is one I would not have attempted if I didn't trust Jim for a safe spot. Thanks Jim.

The videos in portrait mode Isak forward to me and I posted up, the landscape ones are from my camera which I haven't been using for video but if people like them just let me know, put a thanks on them or a thumbs up on the video and I will take more. I have mostly been sticking to pictures as they take me less time to upload and it takes you less time to scroll through page of pics than to watch videos but hearing Nick's Bronco there made me think I may try to do a few more short (seconds, not minutes) videos.

Not sure Jeeps are any more 'american' than G-wagens....hell, it wasn't that long ago that Daimler Benz owned Jeep! And now its Fiat....A fully assembled in Texas Toyota Tundra might be more 'american' than either....Of course, if your G-wagen has to pull my old cj out, while that would be embarrassing (but not unlikely), I'll gladly take the tow, but don't expect any Becks or Augustiner etc - you'll get Earnest Brew!

That was a good day, and the first time I pushed the G that far! Trail damage gave me inspiration for trail upgrades, so stay tuned for those!
    In the meantime, heres this:

Big thanks to everyone who was there, the spotting and the pull were super helpful!

Maybe the rest of the lineup but the Wrangler is still very American. Designed and built here, lots in common with the design that helped beat the nationality of Toyota in a world war and tons of callbacks to it all over. My shift knob has a Willy's on it. The cash flow might wind up in Europe but it definitely doesn't originate from Japan. I hear the "my Tacoma is more American than a Jeep" comment often but then also they brag about how its so solid because of Japanese culture's influence on the assembly process... so which is it?

Your cause for no cross-contamination is a just and noble one, hilariously so I have to admit.
I believe such a foul deed has already taken place however, as all of the autos in the 3.6L Jeep JK are mercs!

Thanks for all the great pics and vids, as usual the camera makes the obstacles look little.
