The use of a credit card on the sprocket is a really clever way of showing the variation in angular velocity.

This reminds me of those old '30s films about automotive principals...if it were in black and white and the narrator had a mid-atlantic accent.

I wonder how much different the results are with a double-cardan driveshaft.

I'd expect in that case that the driveshaft would rotate with a very consistent angular velocity. The central yoke of the double cardan would have a sinusoidal variation in angular velocity, but because it weighs much less it would be less likely to cause a noticeable amount of vibration.

This video gave me the right understanding of the importance of duplicating the angle on each side of the drive shaft back when I tore shaft apart on the trail a couple years ago. Lessons learned the hard way are often the ones that stick right?

I had a hard time getting the angles right even after I installed my SYE the first go of it I must have been off just enough to wear out the double cardan. My neighbor helped me out and planned a couple degrees off my shims. Now it's been holding up no vibes.
