Hey everyone - I’ll start out by saying I’m *very* new. The majority of my experience comes from watching YouTube videos on off-roading and helping my best friend jump his mom’s Range Rover off a homemade ice ramp in their backyard (what can I say? It was the early 90s and we were bored).
Also don’t have my vehicle yet. I have a reservation/order for a new Bronco Wildtrak (that I likely won’t see until sometime early-ish next year). And I think it’d be kind of lame to post a pic of a vehicle I don’t have yet. Plus - rumor is there’s going to be a green option that I’ll likely opt for…and I’m not going to post a photoshopped pic with a guess of which shade of green it’ll be.
All that said - I understand the extreme limits of my knowledge and capability. So for now I’m on here to learn as much as I can. When I finally get my Bronco I’m going to take it on some dirt roads and just get a feel for how she drives. I don’t want to be the jerk blocking the trail because I drove way past my abilities and got stuck…so I’ll be progressing slowly.
Ok so now that the negatives are out of the way - grew up in Colorado (cherry Creek class of 95 CU Boulder ‘99). I’ve been hiking/backpacking/camping my entire life. Now that I have a family and a little kid I’m converting my camping setup from super light to a heavier overlanding set up.
Aside from my love of the mountains one of my primary drivers is taking my daughter up into the mountains and showing her what nature looks like away from people. When I was a little kid my grandfather had a Jeep Wagoneer and I spent a lot of time with him and my dad on very rough roads going to check out some new property he bought. Those days eating cheese sandwiches hiking around looking for mine corners that marked the edges of the property are some of the happiest memories I have. I want the same for my daughter. I want her to have an appreciation of nature and the amazing state we live in.
Also my schedule isn’t a traditional 9-5. I’m an airline pilot so while I’m gone for chunks of time I will have time to go up to the mountains on weekdays (in case there’s anyone else in the group who’s partial to off-roading during the week). I figure trails will be quieter, traffic will be more manageable, and there won’t be a 1hr wait at BeauJos.
Happy to be here and looking forward to experiencing what our amazing state has to offer.
