    Default New family suv

well you wont be seeing our new 4x4 suv out on the trails but pretty stoked about it!

long story short, we had been ready to just keep rolling with our 2011 suburban that has served us well but we started having some problems and the ride was super rough. took it into the shop for an estimate and it was going to need:
    • motor mounts to be replaced
    • radiator hose
    • rear brakes
    • lower ball joints
    • front diff needed to be rebuilt, said the front quarter axle has 1/2" of play moving it just by hand

they wanted to do everything but the front diff and it was going to be almost $3k and couldn't tell me when we would need to do the diff or how long it would last, if we replaced that it could cost up to $2600. needless to say we were not prepared to drop $5500 into our 10 year old suburban so we put a ton of pressure on ourselves to find a replacement. with the current inflation and insane used car prices we felt like leasing something new was our best option. i assume at some point in the near future the prices of used cars will return to earth and that will make me feel better about our decision.

well here it is 2021 GMC Yukon Denali (because we both hate the new front ends of the suburbans) this badboy comes with the newly designed independent rear suspension and has magnetic ride control for a super smooth ride. This is by far the nicest vehicle we've ever had and it's not even close. Thinking maybe on trips to MOAB we could trailer my Silverado and go with the whole fam

    color is hunter metallic

It is a funny thought to consider that massive Silverado as a trailer rig!

    Congrats on the new grocery-getter.

    Congrats!

I saw the title and then hit the pix and thought - that's way too nice for the trails. Now that I read the description, it fits.

Enjoy the smooth 'mag-lev' ride! LOL

Congrats on the new land barge! She's shiny and clean!
    What does that thing tow?

Hopefully next year around this time I'll be looking for something nice and shiny too.

Haha yeah I dunno if we will but am considering for real long trips I would take the family on. For example my company is based in Dallas, TX and they have a little 4 wheel group.. if I ever go down there for a run with them and go to HQ I could see that making more sense and take the family, or MOAB same situation

7,900 lbs but you could get the max trailering option to bump it up to 8,400 lbs

Interesting. I lived in Dallas area for a long time. Not sure where there is any 4wheeling around there. Not any BLM or Forest land that I know of, but I didn't own a Jeep or do any offroading there like I do here. My Subaru could get me anywhere I wanted to go in the Dallas area. Your truck would have a lot of similar-looking company down there (lots of lifted pickups), but very few of those get used much like you use yours.

    They went here this weekend

    http://www.cityofbridgeport.net/322/Northwest-OHV-Park

They have admitted there is not a lot of options and sometimes they travel far for more overlanding type trails but kinda cool that they started the little group and are trying to do some runs together

I love that with the Raptors and TRXs big players are finally taking suspension technology to the next level. Sure with someone would make one not so large, I saw a TRX at my local coffee shop a couple of weeks ago and they are just huge. I would love to see something Ranger Raptor sized stateside.

Yeah totally agree, GM hasn't really done anything that extreme, their new AT-4 models are pretty cool and have some neat built in capabilities and with that model and the Denali you get standard the magnetic ride suspension but you can also add on their "PREMIUM CAPABILITY PACKAGE WITH ACTIVE RESPONSE 4WD"

Which basically gives you the air ride suspension and this cool Active Response 4WD System which has cool offroad features like integrated inclometer and other sw stuff for gearing and control.

I am interested to know how the raptor and trx front ends hold up using IFS if put to extreme rock crawling like conditions. I have just always thought at some point I must SAS my chevy

Wow that's a nice looking Denali, big fan of the color too! I'll be in the market for a new dad-mobile probably next year. My wife is very particular about having a smooth ride (hence why no one has seen her on the trails with me ) and dislikes my Cherokee, and I hate the bucking transmission and don't want to subject an infant to that, so it's going to get traded in. I'm definitely going to put this on my list of candidates!
