    Default Yankee Hill - 5/15/21

We had a great time today! There was more snow on the trail than I expected. We had a good climb up from the Central City and then went on the main Yankee Hill trail without anything of note. Then we decided to give 175.3C a shot (I'll post a pic of the map with this outlined in blue) and got through an off-camber snowbank just to discover that it was pretty much impassable shortly after that. We turned back to the main trail, and found it slow going with lots of recovery equipment being used to its full capacity to get all 4 rigs through.

I think the highlight for most of us was the massive snow drift just before we would start dropping down to Mine Rd in Alice. It was the perfect opportunity to open up the throttle after some real slow progress. Shane demonstrates:

Thanks to everyone who came out!

My first run with Hugh, he brings along a super chill dog, fixes my hood latch, and winches me out of a snow bank. I think we can go ahead and skip the pledge period and promote him straight to full membership

Super fun trip, was practically a class exercise on recovery. Toys we got to use today:
    Two winches (at once)
    Kinetic rope
    Static strap
    Hi-Lift
    All of my Max-Trax
    Hand saw
    Snatch blocks

    Things we heard to crunch:
The transfer case of someone we ran into stuck on the trail but Ty was able to winch them back up on the trail allowing them to back down in two wheel drive. They got stuck a second time and Hugh yanked them out, then we saw them get safely down to the road and on their way. Sounded like an expensive day for very little payoff for them, they weren't even a quarter mile up the trail I don't think. 100% unprepared to be there unfortunately. Mike and his son (name escapes me) were a huge help with rigging and spotting as well, at one point we almost put tension on Ty's winch with a knot in the rope and Mike's sharp eye caught it just in time.

There is just too much to tell the whole thing really but it was an amazing day on the trail, definitely one of the most memorable I have had. Thanks to everyone for coming along, this one felt like a real adventure.

It was perfect, it was the kind of day when even when you see guys in side by sides, they're chill and offer to help dig you out of the snow. When has that ever happened? Saturday, that's when.

Forgot to mention that the weather held for pretty much the whole day. I never felt the need to put a sweater on and no precipitation. Some fog which is classic Yankee Hill
