After a relaxing morning and great breakfast, we headed out on day 3 for my most anticipated part of the trip to the Dollhouse. The road to the Dollhouse is just 21 miles but it takes longer than you think! After leaving camp, we descended for two fun miles to the main intersection with the Flint Trail, and the start of the Dollhouse road. It started on totally flat sandy ground and for the first few miles it’s easy going. Then things slow down when you get to Teapot Rock and it gets bumpy, twisty and there are obstacles for most of the way from here (although rated difficult we found it to be just moderately difficult).
We crawled over slick rock ledges and wound thru canyons past notable rock towers like Mother and Child, the Wall, the Plug, Standing Rock, Chimney Rock.... and then descended into the Dollhouse. What a spectacular place, with doll like spires of rock from 50 to 500 feet, scattered all over the place. Three campsites are located here and we had an amazing spot in Dollhouse 2. As we set up camp, I wandered around climbing on rocks and fell in love with this place! We even were able to get a little cell service on the rocks behind our camp.
Jim fired up his propane stove and we hung out watching stars and the starlink, roasted a few marshmallows and chatted until we decided to crash. This was the best campsite so far and although we did see some people on the road it felt like we had the dollhouse to ourselves! What an amazing place!
