Default Help wanted, Switzerland Trail Rescue of my dead Rover.

My engine died here Dropped pinhttps://goo.gl/maps/rpeeX9Kyp5qcgWhCA based on past experience I am 99% sure it's blown. Jim is going to help me see if he can pull me the 3/4 mile to the trailhead, and if not at least get some items out of the truck.

Anyone game to help? If you don't want to go down the trail just having someone else waiting in the parking lot at the trailhead would be a nice precation in case Jim's Jeep get's stuck.

Reply here (admin edit - private info removed) if you are available. We will hit the trailhead about 9-9:30pm so it will be a late one.

Jeep's almost packed. Last visit to the computer before heading out.

7:30pm as I type this. Google Maps says 2 hrs to Nederland to pick up Shane.

Yes, it'd be nice if someone could meet at least at the trailhead.

I'm safely back home. Jim went way above and beyond, stayed out until 2am and helped me get my Rover moved up the trail a few hundred yards to a wide spot in the trail then broke trail around it so I wouldn't be blocking anyone who tried to run Switzerland. We ended up hooking both of our kinetic ropes together so he could get a good run up, it worked well, fun to see a 4000# Jeep dragging a 7000# Rover uphill in the snow. I will need to find someone with a heavier rig to finish pulling it to the trailhead though, or maybe multiple vehicles pulling. Exhausted now, will try to make a plan tomorrow I think.

3:55am - at home - to post one or two pix for kicks...

Overall, it was a NICE NIGHT to be in the woods. Hardly any wind. Temps were reasonable. No precip. Clouds were breaking for stars. Good Times!

All for now. Sleep is in order.

Sorry to see that Shane, hope it's not as bad as a blown engine, and GOOD JOB JIM! Have you considered Colorado4x4 rescue and recovery to get it all the way out?

I was thinking matt has a big heavy truck, lives up that way, and loves snow. Maybe send him an sms?

dang, Shane! I missed this last night! I would have totally been there to help. :/

when are you going to attempt to get it again? I work today and have my kids until 8:30pm but I may be able to sneak over there depending on the time.

Not sure when I'm going out again. I considered calling CO 4x4 rescue and recovery to get it to the trailhead, but I think they mostly focus on getting it out of the way and it is out of the way now, plus I'd prefer to just handle it with folks I know if possible. It would have been the perfect time to have that big bad Power Wagon out there, Matt is actually the first one I called but unfortunately he is in CA at the moment. Jim's rig was a beast out there, it was fun to get to ride in it finally as I had been wanting to for a while, just too much of a weight imbalance. Adding a 4runner to the mix would do the trick I bet. My schedule is super flexible, so I'd go anytime I could get two or three other people available who wanted to take a crack at it. It's about 3/4 mile from the trailhead but is likely going to need two other rigs daisy chained together to pull it out.

I'm going to head out this afternoon in my Range Rover and see if I can get it down the trail easily. If so at 6k lbs it would be helpful, but it doesn't have lockers like my Disco does so not sure if that will work out.

You have one of the bigger trucks in the group, so if there was a time that worked for you the rest of us might be able to coordinate around that. Otherwise whatever works best for Ty and Trent, maybe 6-7pm?

Sounds like Ty and I will join up and head towards Ned sometime between 4-5pm. Normally takes about an hour to get there up Boulder Canyon, but who knows what we'll see today. Shane, let us know if we need to pick you up on the way by or meet at trailhead, as well as dial in a specific time.

Took a nap and after thinking about how last night went I'm thinking when we get there today we should just run up and down the trail a few times (it's less than a mile) and pack the center down. Jim got bogged down eventually because I was bellied out on my skid plates, he had made two good tracks but his Jeep has so much clearance in the center that the center section was still quite tall.

Hey Jim this brings up something that perhaps needs to be refreshed, Rescue list. It is outdated and requires searching older posts to find it.

    xaza previously posted:
    "It is outdated"

    You know it!

I need to stir the mud on it.

As to finding it - it has its own thread in its own forum "Rescue List". From the main FR4x4 banner, click "Trail Forums" at the bottom is "Rescue List" In that forum is one thread "Front Range 4x4 Rescue/Help List". The first post in the thread has the information that's needed - how to obtain the list and what to do if you wish to put yourself onto (or off of) the list.

    I'll start working on updates...

    Thanks!
