Disco is off the trail, waiting for AAA too tow it too my house now. Will part some details of the rescue later but I just wanted too shy thank you too Jim,Trent, Ty, Curtis and Andrew for coming out to rescue me, and Trent's wife Allison for spending all afternoon shoveling his Jeep or off his driveway so he could make it out. They ended up towing me or likes a sled, just sliding down the trail on my skid plates. It was a sight to see.

What tow setup was the end combination to get the job done? Two tow vehicles? Static or kinetic ropes between them? How'd it go (struggle or easy flow)?
Setup was two kinetic ropes, Kurtis => Ty => Shane LR4. We used Kurtis's beastly TJ up front since he had proper chains and full lockers. He was roped onto Ty's JLR which had the wire chains seen in the photos above. These chains were the only set available between the three of us (Ty, Shane and me) and were donated from the LR4 supply kit. We decided to put them on Ty's rig because he had a locker while my Jeep only had limited slip rear diff. Once Kurtis arrived, we got my Jeep off the trail and used the other two rigs with their lockers and chains. I don't think we would have been successful without Kurtis and his chains. However, I think if Ty and I had proper off-road chains, we may have been able to do this job despite the lack of full lockers. I'm very glad we got the extra help and gear last night so this didn't turn into a 4 hour winch-a-thon.
Towing was pretty easy for the first 1/3 until Ty's rig started throwing the (inappropriate for the task) chains. The job got substantially more difficult as Ty lost chains -- he eventually lost all of them on the trail. Kurtis was able to provide enough oomph to keep the train moving and Ty's rig provided a bit of power as traction came / went. We were only going probably 5 miles per hour, but the lack of traction (sans chains) had the JLR wanting to go into 7th gear and reporting 20mph wheel speed at times.
Kurtis kindly re-ran the trail after we got to the parking lot to recover the lost chains and tensioners. As far as we know we left nothing on the trail.
My chains were terrible, the only upside to them constantly falling off of Ty's Jeep is that as each one was thrown I got to hear Kurtis' Jeep engine snarl a little more fiercely. That is one sweet rig. I only ended up with two pictures one of Ty turning me around to face the right direction, because I am so forgetful I confused my Disco (which has a front recovery point) with my Range Rover, which does not, so it turns out I didn't have to pull it backwards after all. Doh! The other picture is a bit hard to make out but if you zoon in you can barely see Ty and Kurtis both towing me out.

For the curious, I probably could have easily maxed out 8th gear but I was trying to keep the wheel RPMs down since I was in low range. Manual cautions not to go over 25mph wheel speed. With the chains giving up on us it became pretty hard to find what gear to keep it in using the "semi-auto" selector, I probably should have just left it in auto
It's dead Jim. I can hear the big end rod knocking and also see the blue smoke telling me the cylinder walls are damaged. I don't see any point in even taking it to a shop to spend a few hundred bucks and tell me that either one of those things means I need an engine rebuild. Those engines are like gold for some reason in pricing, a remanufactured engine is 13k with 1.5k core charge. Just hauling it to a shop and saying "put another engine in it" would set me back over 23k and I'm not ready to put that much money into it. Still considering my options but I think I may be down to parting it out, or seeing if I can sell it for pennies to someone who wants to put an engine in it themselves. I've done a few engine swaps in the past and it's not something I want to take on again, especially in a Rover.
Just trying to think of what to pick up next now. I'm not really a pickup person so about all I can think of is a Wrangler, Land Cruiser, G-Wagen, or maybe a 4runner. Whichever I choose next, I'm going to price out the cost of an engine first and make sure it's not quite so expensive should disaster strike again.

I just wanted to say I had a lot of fun thanks for letting me join in nothing special to the motor except being chipped and custom exhaust.

I vote 4Runner...but then again, I'm a little biased!
Jeep too...engines are cheap and plentiful.

Wow! I just saw this. That sounds like a lot of work. If I wasn't so busy lately I would have seen it earlier. I don't know if I could have helped though. I never got a call from the rescue list ;)
Shane you should obviously get a 2021 Ford Bronco Badlands or Wildtrak.
Max is obviously right. I change my vote to Bronco.
I'm not sure you can actually buy a Bronco, though. None have been delivered yet, right?
Nope, both the Wrangler 4x4e and the Bronco are pretty interesting to me. Too bad they aren't out yet. I had been waiting a long time to see the new Defender and it turned out to be a dud so really hoping the Bronco is good.
