Default Suggestions Please, Highway + Easy Trail Tire

Looking for suggestions on a moderately priced, mostly highway tire but still decent for an occasional easy trail in my WK2 Grand Cherokee.

The Cooper Discoverer A/T-3 I have now are more trail capability than I need and they’ve become annoyingly noisy. On some tread blocks the sipes are worn off even though there is decent tread depth left.

I like the hankook AT tire....ran a few sets on my tacoma until going even cheaper with nankang. Put them on the 58 willy's as well. Good in snow as well.
Discount now sells the old hankook tread in their pathfinder tire (same as I ran on the taco)... supposedly still made in the same factory. In my inspection, it seemed the siping wasn't full depth as compared to the hankook so I stayed away as snow use is important for me. I probably should have put them on the 58 to save a few bucks as guessing it'll never see the miles to wear them down.

I agree with Hankook. Run it on my ZJ, brothers WJ and my wife's Ram.

Our Frontier came with Hankook AT (space) M tires. Are these the same as the ones you are talking about? So far I like them fine and they did well on the limited offroading we have done with the truck.

I had the older Hankook ATM on my '99 Wrangler and really liked them for off road. But I'm afraid an AT tire will be too noisy for the main use of the WK2 GC which will be 95+% highway. What about a highway tire with tread features that would be helpful on an easy trail, something like these?

We previously ran Hankook Dynapro ATMs on our Xterra and they were fantastic on and offroad but didn't last too long. We replaced them with Faulken Wildpeaks AT3 https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tir...SABEgJiz_D_BwE and I think they are the best tires I've ever had for snow. They are quiet, have worn very well and do well all around.

They have another version called the AT Trail that is more of a highway tread: AT Trail https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tir...SABEgIz8fD_BwE

Paul... interesting to compare. I got over 50k on the first two sets of hankooks on my tacoma. I haven't driven the new falken wildpeak, but didn't like the previous version as the siping only went halfway down the tread block. For the first 20k all was good, but then the second 20k got sketchy in the snow. The new wildpeak does look better.

I have always liked the Yokohama for more on road with a bit of off road. The more aggressive Geolandar AT G015 is good for a truck, but you might want to look at the the Geolandar HT G056 for even more of a tame tread.

Another vote for Hankooks, I have run them on several trucks with great results.

I also had Hankook Dynapro atm's as the OEM tire on my Xterra. I thought they were a great compromise on and off road tire. I recall they had a lower weight rating than a lot of other tires in that size, but that actually seemed to pair really well with the Xterra's weight and made for a nice ride. I was also running a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3's winter tires at the time which had noticeably stiffer sidewalls. That's a great winter tire but they did ride a bit harsher

I upsized a little and switched to a Cooper ST Maxx before I bought my Jeep. I kinda wished now that I stuck with the hankooks seeing how the Xterra spends less time in the dirt. I'm running the cooper AT3 on my van and I think its a good tire, although given the tire size and weight of that vehicle I dont think my experience with that tire is relatable to your vehicle. I do like them... nothing bad to say... just apples and oranges.

We also took it on a 5 day trip the same day the Hankooks went on, and they probably saw as much trail as road during the first year. We got about 30k out of them, I was just expecting more based on reputation, but no com, plaints otherwise. You can get a better deal on these now from Discount Tire: they have a house brand "Pathfinder AT" which has been made by various companies for them over the years, and is currently the Hankook Dynapro ATM with a different sidewall. Exactly the same tire.

I had the at3w on my WJ, loved them in all weather. Smooth rolling, plenty of tread depth, aired down well and were quiet on the highway.

I have the AT3W as well on my Range Rover and they are a good do it all tire but do get a little noisier after the first few thousand miles. My favorite tire for occasional trail use isn't the most affordable option, the Michelin LTX, it's excellent in snow, quiet, wears like iron, and has very good traction in everything but mud. It's only weak point in Colorado driving that I know of is the sidewalls, if you aren't careful you will cut them.

I have cut sidewalls on LTX and AT3W but I wasn't exactly driving cautiously either time.

I have had Hancock AT tires on my F-150 since we replaced the original tires. I wouldn't by any other tire fo this truck. I also buy studed Hancock winter tires for a separate set of rims to interchange for the seasons. 2 wheel drive my truck is great in the snow with them on. I'm due for a new set this year.
