Default Camp and explore Pawnee Grasslands

With the Jeep coming together I'm anxious to get a few nights in with the setup I plan to use for the Maze district trip later this year. Since it is pretty cold in the mountains this time of year, I'm fishing for a good Saturday / Sunday to head up to Pawnee Grasslands or somewhere else that isn't too cold at night to shake down the camping system. I'd likely be putting up a run thread with a few days notice as the weather forecast shows some promising weekend.

I think my goal would be to find a Saturday night with forecast lows no lower than 25-30F and some comfortable daytime highs. Since it is February, I don't know when the next opportunity will be yet, and I am reserving this weekend for a little more work on the Jeep before a trip.

Would anyone be interested in exploring the grasslands for a day with a single overnight stay on the trail? Suggestions for alternate locations along the front range?

Just an FYI many of the trails and such are closed in the spring due to nesting raptors and such. I'd suggest checking if you haven't about them before setting your dates.

Thanks. I have seen that there are closures starting March 1 for raptor nesting. The closures seem to be from March until June.

Trent, my wife and I did a overnighter a few weekends ago with the Front Range Overland Bound group. We did Old Stage Coach road from Colorado Springs to Creeple Creek, then the shelf road to a ohv area near Pueblo, camped overnight then drove through Red Rock canyon. To another Ohv area (Seep Springs) did a couple loops and called it a day. I know it's a little far just to try your camp setup but it was a great weekend.
Another good option would be 4-mile near Buena Vista. It has some great easy trails that have awesome campsites. (West side is open, east side has winter closers).

Pawnee also has alot of shooting going on usually. Depending on what you are looking for your camping experience that may not be ideal.
