Default TDash's '06 Silverado - Bumpers, Winch, Spray, Rails

    Hey everyone!

Long time no talk, sorry for being a stranger but between COVID19 changing the world we live in and me really trying to prioritize my next upgrades I couldn't afford (literally) to have any setbacks I could have got on the trail. Well I'm happy to say my rig is almost in shape to hit the trails again weather permitting and thought I would share the progress with you all.

Here are my before pics, I have been battling some serious UV damage to my paint and have been worried for sometime that it will lead to rust quickly, additionally I got some new bumpers that were just raw steel that would be used to mount my new winch. Lastly I of course always get nice pin stripes when I hit these "Jeep wide" trails, now if it were just the pin stripes I would say oh not a big deal but given all the variables I thought it would be nice for me to get my entire truck line-x sprayed, this takes care of the new bumper from being raw steel, takes care of my faded paint and should be tougher against all those tree branches

Check on the colored bed-liner spray...but also check as to how much color fade will occur.

    This does look nice!

How many days did they have the truck? Do you have to wait a few days for it to cure?

The bumper is a DIY kit that you need to weld and... I don't weld. So that took about a week because they realized the stock bumper moves up with the body lift however my new bumper does not without some additional brackets from MOVE... so this fabricator added on the extra piece at the top to fill in the gap and I actually like it much better at this height and think it looks great.

line x was actually booked up for 2 months before they could get me in for the whole truck so I asked if we could just do the bumpers first because I can't have raw steel and they agreed. Took them a couple days to do the 2 bumpers but I think they were busy and could have done it in a day.

Came back in early January to drop it off again for the body and this time it took them 3 weeks. There is quite a lot of prep work and taking things apart, sanding, taping off etc. They told me they spend 2 days straight spraying nothing else but my truck so that's why it takes a while to get it on the calendar. They sprayed on wed/thur and I picked it up Monday night. I don't know if that time was needed for curing or to put everything back together or both.

The reason I went with line x even though it's the most expensive is mainly because they seemed pretty experienced with the whole vehicle sprays and the fact that the premium comes with a UV clear coat protection to help against our brutal sun here in CO. I also liked the texture better than the Rhino lining (what I have in my actual bed). I am extremely pleased and although I didn't have my truck for quite a long period of time I'm lucky that I don't commute and we can drive my wife's car.

P.S. you can have them spray in colors but it does cost more

It does look very nice. I wondered how much disassembly was required. It looks like they must have spent a lot of time removing trim and/or body panels and masking, and you mention this a little above. Did they strip all of the pieces to bare metal before coating or just sand the existing finish for better adhesion?

in my opinion, the line-x has what looks like a more rough spray with more closely knit textures / bubbles and rhino has the larger bubbles with a smoother texture

I am pretty sure they sand the existing finish down to bare metal on any portion they plan on actually spraying

    Looking good!

+1 for Line-X. I like their texture better than Rhino as well. I had the bed on my truck done three years ago with the added UV protection and it looks the same as the day I picked it up.
