    Default Fourmile Dec 5 Saturday

On Saturday the 5th I'm taking the day off and doing a run in Fourmile. Fourmile is a lot of fun, it's pretty easy and you can cover a lot of miles in a run. We've done the whole area in our stock Xterra open / open on 31s. The seasonal gates don't affect these trails.

    Meet up here https://www.google.com/maps/place/38...4d-105.9856118

300 Bald Mtn Gulch from 307 to Ruby Mtn trailhead / CR300

    376

    311

    373A

Hey Paul I am interested in going, I am in the middle of swapping my axles out with axles 4.10 gears. I'm waiting for a new track-bar drop bracket for the front axle. I have the rear axle in was planning on doing the front next weekend, I'm pretty sure I could always run this in two wheel drive 4 low? If it's clear,, Just really want to get up in the mountains. What do you think?

I think you could do it, the only part that might be challenging would be the end of Bald Mtn Gulch where it goes to the Ruby Mtn trailhead / campground; that section has some large embeded rocks that you have to crawl, but as we'd be going downhill I don't think you'd need 4wd as much as low range for speed control. I just did Bald Mtn Gulch for the first time in our Xterra this fall, it was typical easy fourmile and I finished it with a blown drivers side lower ball joint.

I'm curious to take my KL out (non trailhawk, so no 4LO). Trails north of 285 look very easy (Jeeper in the first video mentions he's in 2WD). As you said above, those south of 285 could be tricky. Maybe I'll just meet up with you guys as you cross over 285...

In that video that is me talking about David; he's on 33s and lifted, and he's better at this than most of us so I think he'd be capable. The thumbnail is (r-l) David, Trent, Me and Adam. The south trails we're doing are about the same difficulty as the northern ones, and while I do think you might be able to get your KL through it, compared to your YJ it would be the difference between surviving and thriving. You'll have a busy day in the KL and and easy one in the YJ. I've never done these trails with a new cherokee, but I have done Yankee Hill with a trailhawk and it took over 4 hours for a trail that usually takes 30 to 40 minutes. He also took some damage from being pulled through the snow, and that kinda sucks when you're just out to have fun. So it's up to you, and ofcourse you're welcome either way, but personally I'd use the YJ.

Oh, 100% agree. This is more about me being lazy not wanting to drive the YJ for 2 hours on the highway to get there I'll be there Saturday, one way or another. What's the snow look like on these trails? I might wait to try the KL next year when it is completely dry...

Also that looked like a fun day out on Yankee!

the highway sucks, but 285 is a lot better than I70. If you leave early Foxton rd to North Platte River rd to 67 to 24 to 285 is a beautiful way to go. The weather for Buena Vista shows no snow between now and then, and on www.cotrip.org the cameras show just a little snow around, I'm guessing there will be just traces left by saturday.

For the most part the 4 mile area doesn't get a lot of snow throughout the winter, it's quite like Denver in that snow is here today gone tomorrow. So if they haven't had a storm for a while, there may been a patch here and there. For the most part the trails will be clear.
