Is Tarryall (sp?) reservoir open? Kids and wife might want to kayak while I run some trails, if it is an option.

Yes it is open, and has been very busy lately, but mostly around the shore. Hand carried boats can be launched from several places and do not need to be inspected for Zebra muscles from what I understand.

I will definitely be doing the run and doing some camping...not sure which day yet. Thinking probably camping sat and then running the trail sunday. Will hold off a bit on signing up until I know for sure.

We're kicking around the idea of camping again this year. Unsure what we might do at this point.

Jen's work is picking back up, and she works fairly late on Fridays, and some Saturdays during the day...not sure if this would be one of them, but safer to assume that she is working and then we'd head up when she is done to camp that evening. She is normally off Sun-Mon, so camping Sun (maybe not at CW, but somewhere out there) is not out of the question and we'd stay in the mts through Monday. We just got back from another Sun-Mon 'weekend' and its quite nice missing some of the heavy use crowds.

Does anyone know if there is access to some dispersed camping somewhat near this area that a modern "SUV" would be able to get to? Meaning AWD but barely any clearance trying to see if my friends can camp out and I'll take them wheelin but not have to drag all their gear around.

You can camp at the china wall trail area with a regular SUV. I brought my Subaru two years ago. No problem getting to several good dispersed campsites with even a 2wd vehicle. You cannot access the water without high clearance and 4WD, though.

Ty, see this post for information on where we camped the last couple years -- this site is easily accessible with 2WD and limited clearance. Jim even drove his old Honda hatchback down last year.

Planning to camp one night. Not sure if Friday or Saturday yet, and probably won't decide until middle of next week.

Thinking of other trails or just hanging there? If we camp (glamp), it will probably be both nights. As of now, there is still a burn ban in Park county.

Bringing a trailer (rv) for glamping? I think we are going to keep it easy and just stay put at China wall area -- first time we've tried to stuff a 4 person camping setup into the Jeep.

Thought you would bring the Subaru to haul the kayaks. My trailer gathers a lot of dust so thought we might bring it. Just need to bring the truck and Jeep.

We discussed two vehicles and kayaks, but seem to be settling on a more compact trip and trying to learn how to camp out of the Jeep with less. Calling this a shakedown camping run in our most space deprived vehicle.

I won't be able to make it. Too many unexpected vehicle expenses the last few weeks.

Sorry to hear that Tom, should be a good time, even sans the normal potluck lunch.

Good time to “bump” the thread just the same, attendance is looking a bit sparse so far.

I'm in for this as well. I think I'll camp Friday and Saturday, and by camp I mean sleep in the back of my rig. I plan to do a bit of car camping this summer with my wife so this will be a good chance for me to test it out by myself and make sure it's comfortable and I have everything I need.

I think with Covid sparse is probably the best we can hope for. I wonder if we'll be busy the whole time wheeling and bs'ing or if I should bring my dirt bike or mountain bike for additional entertainment.
