Default Replacement key for my Jeep

I only have one key for my Jeep (lost one) and it makes me nervous to not have a back-up. I found a blank, un-locked key on eBay with all the matching numbers on the back that says it will fit my Jeep. $25 bucks beats everything else I have found. My question is, can you recommend a good place to bring it to have it cut and programmed? The dealer wants WAY too much. I'm hoping to find a reputable locksmith that can do it. ~ Thanks!

Most Ace Hardware stores advertise that they can do it. I went to the dealer and had them program 3 keys, it was the same price for 1 or 100.

I bought a spare key on Amazon, had it cut at ace, and programmed it myself. If you have both original keys you can program it yourself on a JK.

i believe Michael is correct that Ace can do the whole thing now. If not I would try a locksmith first before a dealer. IIRC they wanted about 100 bucks at the dealer.

The dealer wants $225.00. I only have one key at this time. I'm hoping a locksmith can reprogram a new blank, uncut, unlocked key/fob to match the one I have. This is the key I found on eBay:

$225 is ridiculous, I think I paid $75 at my local dealer.

$280 for me from Faricry, I only had a single key as well.

From what I understood it take's two keys to make programming a third one very cheap and anyone can do it, otherwise it's expensive. I just didn't want to take the chance of losing my only key.

If you have two keys all you have to do is get extra keys cut and then there is a process using the ignition to program new keys.

Who needs THREE keys though? Why not eight or twenty then? It's dumb you need two keys to make a copy.

Probably some pathetic attempt to prove ownership.

Mine is a TJ but I bought a new ignition cylinder for $50 from OReilley (comes with a spare key also) and replaced it (very easy in TJs at least) so now I have 2 keys (original and spare). Not sure if this is an option for JKs but thought I’d mention.

Thanks for all the input. I think I'll go ahead and buy the blank and then shop around. (ACE first and then Keys for Less in Denver told me on the phone they could do it... (I think they said $100). I think what makes mine so expensive is the fact it has a remote start button. That seems to be price-jacker or the "no-can-do" factor for some of the places I've called.
