    Default Hello from Denver

Hey there, just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. My name is Christian and I live in Denver. I moved here about 3 years ago from the east coast (ny/nj). I’ve built up 4 previous jeeps and used to wheel a little bit on the east coast, but have never been on a trail out here, so I’m a little rusty. I sold my last Jeep shortly after we moved to take on a project CJ7. I’m very close to finishing up the build. It’s an ‘81 with a 304. Its finally driving on the roads now and I’m very excited to get it off-road. I just have a few more things to do like beef up the axles, install lockers, and figure out how I’m going to carry my tools and recovery gear. There are some pictures attached of the CJ in it’s current state. This was a pretty rough barn find when I bought it a year ago, but luckily it had very little rust, so it wasn’t too bad getting it back in shape. The dash restoration was a bit of a beast but I managed to rewire the whole dash and sort out all of the electrical gremlins. Anyway, I’m looking forward to testing this thing out on the trails and wheeling with some of you. It’ll be my first time wheeling with a V8, a carb’d engine, a leaf spring suspension!

    Welcome to the group!

That side profile looks great. James, FinoCJ, might be your resource for carb jetting.

`had a 79 CJ-5, V8, headers, side pipe glass packs - yours is bringing back memories.

What tires / lift / axles?

Thanks, it runs pretty nice for a carbed engine but I think I’m going to end up doing the Holley EFI kit next winter. It has 35” BFG MT’s w/ 4” Superlift springs & 2” shackle lift. Axles are AMC 20 in the rear and Dana 30 up front. This weekend the front is getting a Torq Locker and chromoly shafts. In March/April the rear is getting an ARB locker/dual compressor, 1pc Chromoly shafts, and a regear.

Points, Carbs and leaf springs are dear to my heart and old jeeps. Unless Jim or louis is along, there aren't many leaf springs left, and I might be the only carb left in the entire group. I know for sure no one was still running points...but even I moved on from points....
I've never wheeled a v8...although hopefully the 58 wagon with sbc will wheel one day. When I had a cj7 it was a 258, but that motorcraft carb ran really well here in Colo. It took some work with the R2g carb on the current 70v6 to get it right, but its so nice now. Sounds like you've done your HW on the amc 20...I never had a problem with mine but only ran 33s with LSD. 35s with locker is new ball game, but sounds like the 1piece chromoly shafts usually do the trick.
