A good weld shouldn't leak.
I am no expert at this, but when I took welding class our final test was to weld two pieces of square tubing together so they would hold water. Mine leaked. So again, I'm not an expert, but just to parrot what I was taught, make a small pool next to the hole and pull it across, repeat. I was taught that when filling a hole, if you circle back or cross over what you already did you can burn through it and cause small leaks.
Drill/grind it out and fill weld then sand smooth. Be careful not to add or subtract too much material. Wheels are meant to be perfectly balanced. So adding something like jb weld would not be a great idea either
I made plugs from another wheel with good beveling. Everything was ground clean.
im using a Lincoln 110 welder at work so in not sure what wire type or size it is. It is an argon, O2 mix.
i got good wire speed and heat. The puddle ran well and burned deep.
all looked good till I put about 15 pound to it and it bubbled.
i made up a small batch of JB weld and made sure to “pack it in” and now no leaks.
at 37 inch tire I’m not lookin a perfect balance anyway.
