Default Jeepers Jamboree - 4 days on the Rubicon Trail

Just got back from attending the 67th Annual Jeepers Jamboree, 4 days on the Rubicon Trail. It was a long 18 hour haul trailering the LJ, but it was worth the effort. The trail seemed more difficult than years past. I think it was because of the late winter and the trail has not been run much since the snow melt. I firmly believe the trail conforms to size of the tires popular at the time. I've been running the Rubicon since 1981 and you could get through the trail on 31's. The years went by and the tires got bigger, 33's, 35's, and now 37's or bigger are the norm for JK's. About 400 rigs and I'm guessing over 800 people partying and spinning Jeep lore.
    Here are some photos.

The food and the volunteer hosts were awesome. Ribeye Steaks were the best. The American Legion Bar drinks were cold and strong, the Rotary Ice Cream Parlor was sweet. And some very interesting folks

Traditional end of trail group photo at Observation Point at the top of Cadillac Hill and of course a sunset photo. Six out of about 12 members of our regular rock crawling group from California, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado. Next time we all get together will be at 2020 Moab Easter Jeep Safari (at least I don't have to travel as far)

I was definitely a bit surprised how difficult it was for swb cjs on 33s...we had one very skilled driver with 31s on an old cj with 4cyl and he out wheeled everyone - very impressive...but at some point, the holes and rocks just swallow up the small tires. I guess I am partial to old iron and a bit more conservative builds...but with everyone on 37-40s, its kind of frustrating...

There were quite a few older CJ's and Flatfenders on the trail with small tires and open diffs. You definitely need some skills driving it old school. I think everyone should start out with small tires and open diffs to truly develop and hone their driving ability. It's too easy to just press the button and basically have the Jeep drive itself. And I've seen more people get into trouble as the new Jeeps are more capable than some drivers.

Great to hear...there were definitely quite a few old iron groups out when we were there...the rubicon definitely has an old school feel. And honestly, all those driving new school JKs and whatnot went out of their way to make sure our old jeep group had space and time to work...for lack of a better word, they all respected the old iron and appreciated how tough it could be. Was a great, supportive wheeling community. Glad you had a good trip...

Iíve run trails all over the west and have found the vast majority of the wheeling community is supportive and shows respect for all years, makes, models, levels of modification and levels of skill. Thatís one of the reasons Iíve been doing this for so long. I hope to see you and other club members on the trail to help me experience and learn more about wheeling in Colorado.
