Default North Sand Hills Friday August 16

Considering a trip to North Park, any interest in a Thursday or Friday run at the dunes August 15 or 16?

    Interested.

    Day trip or overnight?

I could see a multi-day (perhaps solo if no other interest) and then explore more trails in the area - southeast corner of North Park - Teller City area and perhaps the trail up-n-over the west side of North Park to Steamboat.

Maybe if it was the week before. The kids start school the week you suggested, so there's no way I can go on 15 or 16.

the start of school is part of why I chose that week, less potential crowds. That area is no longer sleepy, all the Yurts in State Forest are booked solidly on the weekends through September https://www.neversummernordic.com/yurts and if you watch videos of the sand hills they are super busy on the weekends. It's gotten so busy that the Forest Service just had a series of public meetings about managing the area, http://jacksoncountycogov.com/event/...on-sand-hills/ I don't know what will come from that.

Probably an overnight atleast, but it's just ideas at this point so IDK. I'm looking at a camper later this week, if that happens and I bring it then we'd probably stay in the area. IDK.

Do you mean the Ellis Jeep Trail to Steamboat? That took a lot of damage in the last round of floods and has been rerouted with mixed reviews. I have a strong chance to run it in September so I don't want to plan around it this time, but I am down for exploring.

August may not work for me after all, it looks like September 13 friday or 14 Saturday will be better.

Possibly, though I think that might conflict with Moab which would trump the closer Sand Hills.

All the cool kids are doing it. Just FYI the townsite of Old Roach is not what you want to see, there is an old splash dam on stuck creek you have to hike to from the townsite that is the real interesting thing there.

"July 19-21 team red rubicon did a first ever weekendlanding trip (overlanding as they call it) through NW Larimer County, dipping into Wyoming twice, and Jackson County a little bit playing in the Sand Dunes.

We started out with fuel at Ted's Place gas station at Highway 14 and 287, and made our way up to County Road 80. Traveled west to USFS route 182, and took that north to the Border where we camped for the night. The rum and cokes were flowing heavy!

Saturday we took county roads over to the old roach area and ran into a cow and horse road block, made our way to the old roach town site (nothing much left) and pushed further north into Wyoming again.

We dropped back south to play in the Cowdry, CO sand dunes for a bit, and were all so exhausted we decided to push it further east since we were well ahead of schedule and camp along Old Flowers Road in Pingree Park. (west of Fort Collins, CO).

An awesome trip, first of its kind for us, and more great memories were made again!"

FWIW - Last evening (July 21) I tried to get over the mountains from Steamboat to Walden - trail is still locked at "gate 3" on the western side. Had to backtrack for the asphalt route.

Routt Forest road #60. It heads up and over Buffalo Pass to "somewhat" connect Steamboat Springs with Walden CO.

Yellow highlight is about what I was able to travel.

Not overly in the area for North Sand Flats, yes, though it's north park related (and on my ToDo list of the many trails up there).
