Im not in any rush, and it's all flexible. my only plan Wed morning is to take Kix back to the shelter where I adopted him to say hello to the staff there that was so kind to him. One lady in particular was taking him home with her at night and bonded with him.

Just booked my tent campsite at moab valley...Its only $10 more all total (all 3 nights) for a double site (2 tent sites and room for two vehicles) - so if anyone else is interested to tent camp with us on a double site, we can split the cost in your favor and we'll still come out ahead. I would need to change the reservation so let me know if you'd be interested.

How did you book this? Did you call a phone number? I went URL searching and came up with sites (Booking.com and another) that seemed close but no cigar for tent sites.

    Here is the webpage.
    https://www.sunrvresorts.com/resorts...h/moab-valley/
You can book online or via phone. If online, the upper right has yellow box Book Now. Put in the dates and then when the 2nd page comes up, you have to choose RV and then choose tent site (which is kind of odd). The accommodation button is if looking for a cabin or room. hope that helps...it is a bit of an odd booking page and I ended up calling them the first time. I have since figured out how to book a tent site - just didn't make sense to me to go under RV to find a tent site.

So found out the Moab 240 race starts and ends at the Moab Valley campground where I usually stay, and where I have booked a site. Things are going to be very busy around there and they are officially full at this point. Not sure how this is affecting other accommodations in Moab, but it may be pretty busy around town on the evening of the 10th and again on the 14th.

I'm going to have to back out. I have mixed feelings about missing Moab as the reason I can't make it is that I will be signing a boatload of paperwork to close on my new house on a day I was supposed to be in Moab. Take lots of pictures and tell lots of stories when you all get back!

Sorry to hear you can't make it. Congrats on the house, and looking forward to see the new rig sometime too. It looks nice in the photo

FYI: I contacted Up The Creek tent campground and they have availability for me for the four nights (~$120w/tx).

    www.MoabCampground.com

I called (and e-mailed) yesterday just after 5p. They called back this morning to confirm availability. They'll then send "in the next day or two" an e-mail invoice where I'd be able to pay. A curious process.

    Thanks for the talks James.

Do you have a handy link to the race route? I'm curious if any of our trail plans should (or must) change because of the race.

This will be my first time wheeling in Moab, so I'm really happy to be joining you guys. Unfortunately I won't be able to leave home until mid-day Thursday and I'll join you for Friday and Saturday. I'll need to know the meeting spot for Friday morning - it would be great if someone can text me the time/place when you decide.

You got it - Cell / text is a common way to communicate while out there.

FWIW - the Rescue List, for those that have offered to list themselves, typically shows cell phones for folks.

Sounds good....I won't be leaving until Thurs afternoon and will be wheeling on Fri Sat and hopefully Sun morning. I am sure as we get closer and a run schedule is developed, we will let everyone know when and where to meet. We often meet at Lions Park 191/128 intersection in the ballpark of 9am - earlier depending on how far and how busy we expect things to be.

I would like to get in on this action. I have friends and family in GJ that I may have to stay with if i cant find camping, I could make to 9am meets no problem, although pushing it earlier might be more difficult. I can likely participate Fri, Sat, and Sun.

I've had to cancel so much work the last two weeks due to our illness that I dont think we're going to take as much time in GC as we wanted to. I'm open to anytime Wed for this, or can push to Thursday and would love the company- you and anyone else who wants to go this way.

I'd like to trek that way.

My plan is to leave FoCo after the rush hour to Denver - say 8 or maybe 9a. FoCo to GJ via 25 / 70 says 306 miles. The jeep runs about 60/65 so perhaps 5.5 to maybe 6 hours with a fuel stop or two. Meet @ GJ (or wherever) about 1:30 or 2p - would that give enough time to get to Moab? I'm OK getting to Moab after dark but it'd be nice to travel the new roads with sunlight.

What duration do you think for the dirt route?

Sounds great! I'd guess it's about 4-5 hours, I'll try to get a better idea and post it up. As an estimate, Grand Junction to Gateway is an hour, John Brown Canyon to La Sal another hour, then Thompson Canyon / Onion Creek another 1.5 to 2. This may be the last year that this area is quiet- Gateway Canyons Resort is up for sale, it's a current story on TMZ and is getting a lot of attention. The price is 280 million, if it sells someone, more likely some resort company, is going to have a lot of money to make up and it's going to get a lot busier.

I suggested a list of trails above, but didn't really get any agreement. I saw some discussion regarding various trails...

I'd still like to run Elephant Hill, but as it is quite far away and has day-use pass requirements inside the park, it is the most likely to get dropped.

Definitely running Fins & Hells Revenge.

Elephant hill would be a full day, as would Fins & Hells. That leaves a third day unaccounted for. Order of trails / days should probably be coordinated with the endurance race map to hopefully avoid the bulk of the race traffic, if they are in the same area at any time.

My other suggestions for the third day were:

white rim (probably too long for a day trip)
    lockhart canyon / lockhart basin
    cameo cliffs / wilson arch

White rim is probably not going to happen -- too long. That leaves Lockhart canyon and/or basin and the cameo cliffs / wilson arch pair.

Every trail listed here is new to me. If we were to re-run some trails I've run before, my kids would vote for Rainbow Terrace.
