I just moved to Boulder 6 months ago after spending the past 15 years in Portland, OR. I'm a long time dirt biker but new to wheeling over the past few months. I'm currently running trails in a 2006 Range Rover all stock but am looking to replace it with an LR4 when I find the right one.

As luck would have it I ran Switzerland, Cliffhanger 2.0, and Pennsylvania Gulch Saturday but must have just missed the group run. Then I went south a bit to the Dakota Hill area, ran into some snow on most of the trails but still had a good time.

I don't have one of the Range Rovers with lockers and lifts/larger tires aren't much of a possibility with these rigs so I can't do the harder trails but I'll give most things a shot and don't mind some pinstriping in the name of exploration.

Can't seem to post pics from my ipad but I'll figure it out and put a couple up.

Welcome to the group. You'd be surprised what that Rover can do in rock mode with good tires on it. We had a 2007 Supercharged that we had offroad with a friend who was running his TRD taco and he had to lock up to follow us on a trail with an off camber turn that wanted to slide you down into a tree.

It does alright, it's really a shame there is no aftermarket for it. I think it's a little more capable than the LR4 actually but with the LR4 I can get steel bumpers, or a hidden winch bumper, armor, etc. Can't find any of that for the L322's. Especially the supercharged one as they stuff an intercooler up front where a hidden winch would go. So here I am moving to an LR4 with 1.5" less ground clearance, but I know I can armor it up, add a winch, and drag it across rocks if needed. Picking up the LR4 tomorrow but will take me a bit to get it trail ready.

Is the L322 unibody with the LR4 body-on-frame?

I like unique or uncommon wheeling rigs...If you could get some protection for that RR, squeeze the biggest aggressive tires you can fit...I think it would be an awesome rig (winch isn't really all that necessary unless you like to go solo - and there are other methods of self-recovery if needed). Member Brad (if he is still around?) has and LR3 or 4 that he built up nicely into an overlanding rig.

Brad's rig is really nice. Last I saw he was working at JC's British as their overlanding equipment specialist. His LR3 has an Alucab Gen3 Rooftop tent, bumpers, and storage in the back wtih fridge. I know there's more to his rig than just that.

I do almost all of my wheeling by myself currently, but that may change as I meet more people in the area. I do the best I can to be prepared for self recovery, I keep a winch2go, highlift, and traction boards with me right now and have been able to pull my RR out of a pretty bad ditch with the winch in a box, just needed a snatch block for a little extra leverage. I have the biggest tires that will fit under a RR right now, can't really go beyond 32" as you have to have clearance for when the suspension sensors go wonky and it drops to the bump stops (which has happened to me once in the past 6 months). You can go maybe 33" on the LR4 as someone makes a bump stop extension kit for them, but there isn't much for that on the RR, except one guy in Denver who will fab a 6" lift for $6k but that's a bit much for my needs. It is fun the thumbs up and stares I get being in something a little different though. A very concerned dirt biker stopped me on Pennsylvania Gulch last Saturday to tell me "You're going to want to turn around here, it's too much for that vehicle up ahead".

    Challenge accepted!

It was a hard choice not to get a Rubicon though, I know full well they are better in every way off-road, but I like being in something a little different and enjoy the drive to the trailhead almost as much as the trail itself so Rover's work well for me, but there are days when I think man, if I had a Jeep I could clear that no problem, or man, if I had a jeep, this part would cost half as much.

The L322 is unibody, which is why there is only one guy offering lifts for then. He specializes in lifts for unibody vehicles. Mostly Hummers.

Nice have you seen these ride height sensor lift kits? It's not really creating more travel but it raises the normal height. I'm not sure what it does to CVs and Ball joints over time. https://www.lucky8llc.com/products/l...hino-lift-rods
