Default Chinaman Gulch 5/4 (Sat), 5/5 (Sun), or 5/6 (Mon)

Hey all, I haven't wheeled with most of you yet. I have a friend coming in next weekend and we were hoping to run Chinaman Gulch. I haven't run it before so would love to go out with a group. I am available to run 5/4, 5/5, or 5/6. Just checking for interest.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Happy to post the run. Just trying to see what day is best. I assume interest will pick up as the week goes on. Any preference on day? My weekend and Monday are completely open.

I'd post it once you have the basics fleshed out.

    That's what "Planning" is for.

Once, in planning, at least one other person is interested, and those interested can agree on when/where, it should be posted in "Planned" and put on the calendar.

The "Planning" thread is often messy with many posts to sift through. Some run thoughts don't make it out of planning as there's no interest and the OP doesn't wish to head out alone.

Planned is often clean of posts. Sometimes only the original post of when/where but if other posts happen they're on-point to the run and the thread is easy to read.

The first post in Planned and what is put in the RSVP are often the same. A copy-paste-fill-in for what's listed when creating an RSVP is handy.

EDIT: I understand Brandon's point - sometimes things get more exposure "in the yellow box". An idea hit me a few weeks back that will get tested shortly - perhaps for this run as it looks like at least two people are interested / it'll make it to the calendar. To get wider support for the larger audience that does not log on too often, when a run hits the calendar and has a "Planned" thread - I'll send out an e-mail to all registered members with info on the new listing. I'm toying with sending out an e-mail when a run pops up in "Planning". See the below link for discussion.

EDIT: I started a thread in Help & News that is of interest:
    www.FrontRange4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?27430-Forum-test-Admin-email-to-membership-of-upcoming-run(s)

    (end of threadjack)

I'd be interested if it landed on Saturday. Some of the pictures look super tough though.

#1 I've not been to Chinamans (but in my mind it's one of the more difficult trails where body damage is a higher concern)

#2 Folks will chime in even without asking, but one way to go about the "go/no-go" thought would be: What do folks think about me taking my vehicle on this trail?

The items on my mind are: Tires 31's (you mentioned in your intro post). Body protection / sliders - does not look like you have any. Rear locker (unknown) but assumed no.

Folks that know will jump in with thoughts.

No rock sliders or rear lockers. Looks like it maybe a no-go.

I would almost guarantee rocker damage to a rig with a long wheelbase, 31" tires, and no sliders.

    Locker is not required.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. As I mentioned in my initial post I haven't run Chinaman Gulch and view it as a great test but would definitely want some others along. Otherwise I'll just wait until it inevitably gets posted later in the year. I have 35's and full skid plates underneath which I've read/heard are the minimum.

I did it last year in my LJ, 2.5" suspension, 1"bl, 33s and scraped and banged all over the place. It was fun, but Brian's LJ on 35s went past stuff that I hit.

A few years back when they were going to Chinamans I chimed in that I wanted to join. I'm glad others said I shouldn't go as I was open diffs and on 31"s at the time. And I still think it's a trail that maybe one day I will do but probably only once as I would rather do tails for the scenery rather than rock crawling.

Excited to get out with people but I think I'll wait for a trail a little less aggressive. I think I'm going to hit La Salle pass and check out St. Elmo. Maybe find some trails around there.

I went and ran the trail yesterday. Definitely needed skid plates as I rubbed a lot. Didn’t need lockers anywhere but I would say 35’s and skid plates on the JK are the minimum. There were about ten other vehicles working our way through together and playing around on the obstacles. I was by far the least modified of the group so I spent a lot of the time watching the other folks and dreaming of the day my JK is not a daily driver. All in all, great trail with non stop boulders and obstacles.
