Default Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT vs Toyo Open Country A/T II

Looking for new tires for the 4runner and would like to see if there are any tires guys here that have good information on these two tires...

These are going on a 2016 4runner with a 3" lift, we are looking at the 285/75r17 in both tires. There is some mild modification (Body mount chop and inner fender liner) needed to fit this size on the runner but nothing crazy the biggest is prob a gear set in the future.

I am trying to keep the weight as low as I can and we went with some SCS wheels that weigh in around 24lbs. I have been researching these tires and in general the manufacture has most of the info posted on their websites. With all tires I'm sure some of the info is not correct like actual tire diameter, but what Im most concerned about is the weight. Anyone know actual numbers for these tires? Also looking for info on the quality of the tire, like typical balancing (which one might be more round and how many miles you might get out of them (tread compound).

Pretty specific info but I figured it was worth a shot. In general, both tires have good reviews. If anyone has any experience with either tire I welcome their stories as well!

I had put a chart together for my own comparison while doing some research on A/T tires (toyo didnt have weight or specfic diameter listed so I pulled info from shipping info from various sites)

Name PT# Load Range Overall Diamater Width Weight
    BFGoodrich T/A KO2 121/118S E E 33.9 11.3 61
    Nitto Ridge Grapplers 121/118Q 217200 E 33.86 11.26 64.4
    Nitto Terra Grappler G2 121/118R 215120 E 33.86 11.26 61.26
    Toyo Open Country AT2 121/118S 352790 E 33.9 ? 63
    Cooper Discoverer AT3 XTL 121/118R E 33.82 11.5 58
    Cooper STT Maxx 121/118Q E 34.06 11.1 65
    Falken Wildpeak AT3W 121/118S 28030129 E 33.9 11.1 65.5

    Thanks!

The Toyo is 63lbs and cooper is 56lbs. Both are 34 inch overall diameter. I might of talked to you today about tires if you’re the one that called my store. Since you are looking at the exact tires I looked up today. If it was you by chance call me tomorrow and I will get a good price for you since you are on the forum.

I just put General Grabber ATX's on my Titan a couple weeks back and really like them so far. Good in the snow/ice that we've had at my place this winter. The General's might something else worth looking at.

Hey Steve! Sorry I never got back to you, that was me that called you! I ended up talking to some friends that hooked me up with their guy at BigO. I appreciate your offer though! It took a little longer that I wanted but turned out good

I ended up going with the Cooper Discoverer AT3, I have had quite a few people tell me that they had good experiences with them. We did have to trim the bumper a little but that was pretty easy and had a friend help me cut the body mount for clearance. Prob need to cut a little more on the fender liner but right now nothing is rubbing

Have happily run the same tire for the last 3 or so years. No issues!

What are your thoughts after 7 months or so? I am considering putting these on my Silverado. They seem to have good reviews, priced right, and have a $100 rebate right now to boot.

I still really like them. I've put ~8,000 miles on them and they seem to be wearing very well. They might be a little on the noisy side for some, but it doesn't bother me at all. They ride well and did great in the snow and ice we had last winter. I'll be buying them again when the time comes unless I see something else that I want to try. I'm a tire junkie lol.

Thanks for the reply. For the price and the reviews, not sure I can go too wrong.

Happy to help. I've been really pleased with them. I'm sure you'll like them if you get them too. And like you said...you can't go wrong at that price.

Noticed some wear on the sidewall this week probably due to the issues I encountered on MSV-Coney from spinning tires.
